The Afrofuturism Lounge
was initially conceived as a fun way for people interested in Black Comics and Afrofuturism to connect and interact during the San Diego Comic Con. An after party of sorts. It grew into an alternative con space with exhibitors sharing their
art, books, collectibles and concepts with the general public in an intimate venue that invites engagement. Last year 700+ people found their way to this hidden treasure in the Gaslamp District.
Artists drew on the "walls" and everyone learned more about each other's offerings and ideas.
A panel moderated by David Walker afforded attendees the opportunity to hear from people with different journeys and crafts about how they knew and what helped them succeed. Attendees raved about how much they enjoyed being exposed to and learning about this niched genre.
Our goal is to host the next Afrofuturism Lounge in a more accessible space with some modern amenities, like A/C. Again, we will take place July 19-20, 2019, during the San Diego Comic Con and be in a location that is within walking distance of the San Diego Convention Center. Your contribution will help us keep admission at $0. Thank you in advance for helping to ensure this space is available for public engagement.
