Help Kay Recover From Hit and Run Accident

Donation protected
Kay was in a hit and run accident last Friday, November 9th. She was pulled over on the side of the road, off of her bike, when a car hit her. They didn’t bother to see if she was ok and left the scene. Well, she wasn’t ok. Another car pulled over after seeing her struggle on the ground.  They called 911 and stayed with her until paramedics came. We don’t have their information, but thank God they stopped to save her life.

She has no memory of what happened. The last thing she recalls is pulling over to fix something on her bike (fully out of traffic) when something bumps into her. A couple days later, she wakes up in the hospital.

She’s recovering from fractures on her collarbone, ribs, pelvis, a broken leg (which they operated on and put a nail in so it’d heal properly), and lacerated lungs (they placed a pump in her lungs to help drain blood out).

She’s expected to make a full recovery, although right now, she’s in and out of sleep and she’s not able to move the right side of her body.  We don’t know how long she’ll be in the hospital but it seems like it will be awhile. She’s fully reliant on the good nurses and doctors taking care of her and they’re doing a great job.

On Thursday, I went to help Kay’s parents get her bike out of the tow yard. It was $878. Abandoning the bike was not an option. It was another $205 to tow it to her house. The consequences of not picking up the bike was even more costly.

I started to worry about how she’ll recover financially from this. A police report was filed but since there were no witnesses, finding the person responsible is unlikely. She won’t be able to do her free-lance translation work for weeks.

Although she wasn’t on her bike when she got hit, there’s damage on her bike and I don’t know enough about bikes to know if it’s working properly. Visually, there’s a large dent on the gas tank and scratches all over one side.

I don’t know the circumstances of her hospital bill.

For now, I’m thinking we can gather together to   help her with the following:

$1083 - tow yard expenses

$500 - parking fees (hospital is in LA - her parents need to pay each time they visit and they visit her at least twice a day)

$1417 - help fix her bike and living expenses until she’s able to earn an income again

Any financial help you’re able to give will help her tremendously and will allow her to focus on resting and recovering.
