IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

I am excited to share that I have received a scholarship to pursue my studies in Grenoble. Despite this wonderful news, I still need to cover the enrollment fees of approximately 3,500 euros, which are due on September 13th, before the scholarship funds are released. Unfortunately, these fees were announced at the very last minute, prompting me to increase the amount I am requesting on my GoFundMe page.

So far, I have successfully managed to cover the costs of my visa, flights, and train to Grenoble. Now, I am reaching out to you for assistance with this final crucial part of my journey. Your support will make all the difference in helping me achieve my dreams.

AMAZING NEWS

I am thrilled to share that I have recently been awarded the Idex Bourse, a scholarship that will cover my living expenses in France for a year. This incredible opportunity allows me to pursue my dreams and further my education in one of the most beautiful and culturally rich countries in the world.

However, the scholarship funds will only be accessible once I am in France. This means I still need to cover several upfront costs to make this journey possible, including:

Visa fees: The cost of obtaining the necessary student visa.

Flights: Airfare to France.

Registration expenses: Fees required to enroll in my program and start my studies.

I am reaching out to you, my friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers, to help me cover these initial expenses. Your support, no matter the amount, will bring me one step closer to achieving my dream of studying in France.

Who am I?

Hello! My name is Emmanuel Kato, a passionate young scientist from Uganda, and I have been given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to further my education in France. I am reaching out to ask for your support in making this dream a reality.

Background:

I have a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Laboratory Technology and have always been driven by a desire to make impactful changes in the health sector through science. Recently, I was thrilled to receive admission to pursue a Master’s in Health Engineering at the prestigious Université Grenoble Alpes in France. This program is incredibly competitive, offering only five spots each year, and it's a testament to the hard work and dedication that I've committed to my academic journey.

Accomplishments:

Among my notable achievements, I was the team leader of the iGEM team for Uganda in 2022, where I had the opportunity to present our project in Paris, France. You can learn more about our team and project: https://2022.igem.wiki/makerere-uganda/. I am also the founder of the SynBio4ALL Africa initiative, aimed at expanding the reach and knowledge of synthetic biology across Africa. Additionally, I have gained valuable experience as a trainee at the Uganda Virus Research Institute.

Opportunity:

The university is located in Grenoble, a city renowned for its research and innovation, especially in health engineering. The program offers an intensive, research-driven curriculum that aligns perfectly with my career goals of improving health care through innovative biotechnological solutions.

Challenge:

Despite the reduced tuition, the reality of moving and living abroad is financially daunting. The costs of flights, visa processing, initial accommodation, and basic living expenses are substantial. As such, I am turning to GoFundMe to ask for your support.

Impact:

Every contribution brings me one step closer to pursuing advanced studies in health engineering, which I am deeply passionate about. Your support not only aids in covering my initial costs but also in shaping the future of healthcare innovations that I am eager to contribute to. My goal is to bring back and expand the synthetic biology knowledge in Africa, positively impacting our ability to solve health issues on the continent.

Timeline:

I need to secure funds by the end of July. This timeline is crucial as it allows sufficient time to apply for a visa and purchase plane tickets ahead of my departure. Your timely help will ensure that I do not miss this incredible opportunity due to financial barriers.

Thank you for considering my campaign. Any amount you can donate would be greatly appreciated and impactful. Please feel free to share my story with your networks. Together, we can make this dream a reality!
