Help Kathyn Recover from Suave Scammer Swindle

Hi everybody: My dear lifelong friend Kathyn recently got taken by a very realistic scam. They cleaned out her bank account, right when her property taxes are coming due and needed car repairs are imminent. Kathyn, one of the hardest-working, most give-backing persons I know, lives on disability so this theft of her financial resources is particularly harsh and is not something she can readily replenish. She is taking every single step recommended by her bank, the “real” organization the scammers were imitating, and the police. Despite all that, she just learned today that she will not be getting her lost money back because she was a “willing participant” in the scam. (“Willing participant” my rear. She had good reason to believe it was a follow-up to a previous communication with the organization these scammers were pretending to be!)

God knows we have every other thing to be donating to right now. Among those things, helping dear Kathyn replenish her checking account so she can pay her taxes and get her car fixed would be a huge relief and stress-reducer for her. She’s lived through a hell of a lot more than most of us can imagine and deserves to have this issue laid to rest. The amount she needs to recoup ASAP for these immediate expenses is $2,920. I’m listing a higher goal amount for her to cover GFM fees and because she can use a little cushion for peace of mind, darn it. Enough already!

This is a reminder to all of us go back to the source to check every single unsolicited email and phone call, even if it appears to be a follow-up to an actual issue; I got taken (caught in early stages) by another very real-looking but fake follow-up email just last week. They’re out there preying on us all and I feel good being able to help spread the word to remedy Kathyn’s situation.
