Help us prove that Love always wins.
-Our Story-
When Kathy moved to Scotland in the fall of 2021 to study Music Therapy, she never imagined it would become her forever home. But then she met Nicolas, originally from France, who shared a life story similar to her own. Early on, when Kathy was uncertain about the practicalities of their future, Nicolas often reminded her that “Love always wins” - and so far, he is right. We have spent every possible moment together since our meeting, and have since created a beautiful blended family together with our children Alice and Teo. We married in the summer of 2024 in a simple ceremony surrounded by close friends and family, and we joyfully welcomed baby Margot in August.
-Why we need help-
In spite of both Nicolas and Kathy working full-time in rewarding careers, Nicolas as a photographer and tour guide, and Kathy as an artist and music teacher, we have experienced financial setbacks in the last year which have made it more difficult than expected to save the hefty fees needed for Kathy’s spousal visa. In addition to Kathy’s continued expenses of maintaining an overseas parenting relationship with Alice, she was hit with unexpected legal fees in August of last year, just as Margot entered the world. With increased living expenses and childcare costs already stretching our budget to the maximum, our ability to save for the visa has almost completely gone out the window. Kathy and Nicolas have both been taking on extra work to meet this goal, but as freelancers, we have found the economic downturn and rising cost of living has impacted our clientele and reduced our earning ability more than expected.
Though times have been hard financially, we are incredibly grateful for the life we are able to have together here in Scotland. We often remind each other that while we are limited in resources, we are rich in love.
Kathy’s current Visa is set to expire in August, and we now have to face the reality that we cannot do this alone. While it is difficult for us to ask for help from the people we know and love, we do so with humility and gratitude, hoping that we will be able to pay this kindness forward.
Our goal - £4426
£1321 - Family visa fee
£3105 - IHS fee (NHS surcharge)
-An offering of our thanks-
We know that times are hard, and every gift means so much to us. Please let us give something back in return. Kathy is offering either an original watercolour painting (subject of your choice), or four violin lessons (to be given in person or virtually), to anyone donating £100 or more.
