Thank you for expressing your support for our campaign, we really do appreciate it. We are starting this campaign to solicit support for a dear friend and more importantly an incredibly kind, smart and passionate human being, Kartik Shandilya, who is fighting for his life against Cancer. Our collective support can make a huge difference to Kartik’s treatment and his expeditious return to a healthy life.
Kartik is an IIT graduate who had just completed his MBA at INSEAD (France) and was about to embark on his next adventure in Luxembourg when this tragedy unfolded. Barely weeks after the graduation in December 2018, Kartik was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a type of blood cancer. Based on early diagnosis, Kartik’s doctors were hoping to arrest and cure the disease with three-stage Chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant (BMT). Unfortunately, a myriad of life-threatening complications (such as neutropenic colitis, peritonitis, acute renal and liver impairment) have time and again derailed the treatment. To prevent complete organ failure and to maintain key bodily functions, the doctors have had to perform several complicated surgeries including an intestinal laparotomy. These complications have not only delayed the key treatment procedures of Chemotherapy and BMT but are, in fact, likely to outlast them requiring separate treatment. To make matters worse, they have multiplied the cost of Kartik’s treatment manifold.
Kartik’s parents, already stretched beyond their means while raising €65,000 for his initially planned treatment, are now required to raise another €40,000 to cover the additional expenses. That Kartik had secured €60,000 in loans to fund his MBA at INSEAD and that he may not get back to work any time soon aren’t helping his cause either. This financial burden on his family, totaling more than €160,000, is Kartik’s biggest concern even as he battles for his life.
Through this arduous journey, Kartik has been an absolute inspiration – of courage, patience and determination. Despite having spent 120+ days in the hospital, not able to move, eat or even sleep, he finds the willingness to talk to friends with optimism and is looking forward to returning to his personal and professional life.
With your generous support, contributions and blessings Kartik can continue to receive his treatment and hopefully recover soon. Your support is crucial for the campaign’s success and I am confident that together, we can help Kartik beat Cancer.
