My name is Karl. I am 67 years old, and for 45 years I worked two jobs to build a life I could be proud of.
 I did everything you are supposed to do. I paid off my home. I paid off my bills. I saved. I never asked anyone for anything. By the time I reached my sixties, I had everything a man could want except one thing. Someone to share it with.
 That is what they used against me.
 The people who found me were not strangers with a suspicious email. They were patient. They spent months earning my trust, talking with me every day, making me feel like I had finally found the companionship I had been missing my whole life. Then, piece by piece, they convinced me to invest in what looked like a real opportunity. It is called a pig butchering scam, and it is one of the fastest growing crimes against senior citizens in America. They fatten you up with affection and then take everything.
 And they did take everything. My savings. My belongings, which I sold at their urging. My vehicle. Forty five years of work, gone. The people I trusted never existed.
 I am living one day at a time now. I will not pretend that is easy to admit. At 67, I am starting over from nothing, and I cannot do it alone. I have filed a report with local law enforcement, but recovering stolen funds in these cases is rare.
 I have called Jupiter, Florida home for almost 29 years. This community is all I have left, and I am asking for its help.
