Help Karen With Medical Costs & Home Accessibility

As many of you know, my mom Karen Scott spent almost 4 months in the hospital last year after becoming critically ill. To this day we don't know how, but they found that she had contracted bacterial spinal meningitis, and it took an enormous toll on her body. There were many nights that we weren't sure that she could beat this virus, but she fought and is thankfully back home with her family where she belongs. She spent many weeks in the Kaiser ICU, many of which she was hooked up to a ventilator. The virus  did damage to her lungs, her kidneys, her heart, and to her spinal cord. She was able to overcome many of these obstacles, but due to the damage to her spinal cord she no longer has the ability to walk. As you can imagine this has been a huge adjustment and change in way of life for her, and we are now hoping to raise money to help not only with the costs that her care require but also for work to be done on their home to give her back some independence. My dad and brother have already began improving the accessibility with ramps and wider doorways. But in order for her to be able to do the simple things we take for granted like grab a glass of water from the kitchen or being able to take a shower there is a lot more work to be done. It's hard to know how much is needed, but I know that every little bit no matter how small will help them to make the improvements necessary. Any money that we are able to raise will go towards past and future medical expenses as well as accessibility related home improvement projects.
