Hi, I'm Karen. For the past ten years my husband and I have been building a successful therapy business on the outskirts of London specialising in helping people who can't find relief elsewhere. Typical treatments range from helping our clients with massage and reflexology, counselling and nutrition.
When Covid hit, as they considered our service close contact, neither of us could work unless clients had a letter from their GP referring them for massage or reflexology.
Doctors weren't willing to do this and so for the best part of the year we went with no pay and minimal government support as we fell between criteria brackets.
Towards the end of lockdown, we managed to link with a Harley Street clinic to help their post surgery clients recover with our Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) treatment. MLD is the first part of a two-part post surgery treatment protocol. It is not only working great, it has also been an absolute lifeline in a turbulent time. However, we don't currently provide the second part of the procedure because this requires investment in a machine which costs £20,000 +VAT.
With new strains of Covid-19 always on the horizon, as with all successful businesses, we need to diversify in order to protect our future employment. And so we decided to invest in one of these machines, a Pro Max Lipo from the reputable UK company, Lyntons based in Cheshire.
We have already put the deposit down via credit card and this gofundme appeal is to try to cover the cost of that deposit before the payment becomes due. We've seen people who have raised a bunch of money from their fundraiser campaign, so fingers crossed even though we are a local company looking for business investment, we will find enough people within the local and wider community who will find it in their hearts to make a donation. Anything that this crowdfunding can raise from donors, as big or small as you can afford will go such a long way to helping us to continue to work for our future, but to also stay in business and continue to help our clients in the future. This isn't one of those fundraisers that stops when the charity appeal ends. The effects of this will spread far and wide, over time. This machine will support the other parts of our business now and over the course of its lifespan, meaning that we will remain viable for another ten years because of anything you donate. And that means by remaining trading, we can improve the life of many more clients who walk through our doors for every aspect of our service. For sure we've taken a risk here, but we felt we needed to move forward as fast as possible to try and pick ourselves back up again.

*Tell me a bit more about the machine?
The pro max lipo is the product of four physicists who work with the University of Manchester and the NHS. It does several different things, one being fat reduction, but that isn't why we are using it.
We will work with patients when they need post surgery care upon leaving hospital. This could be a private or public medical establishment. Once patients have undergone surgery, whether this is for cancer or liposuction, their body needs to heal. We use MLD to reduce the buildup of stagnant fluid that the unexpected trauma triggers the body to send to the area to protect and promote healing. The issue is that this fluid needs movement and water to do its job well. Something many patients don't do post surgery. This is part 1 of the treatment that we currently offer.
The other side and second stage is the idea of us getting this machine. It helps to tighten skin and improve scars. This is what your donations will help. We're fundraising in order to help our clients with the significant emotional sides to their healing process. Combined with our training in counselling, we think we're well placed to provide our clients with a combined session that focuses not only on their physical health (and disease) but to police emotional moments and education. *How does the machine work, and why we need it
While performing lymphatic massage with this machine, the in built vacuum within the handpiece will pull the area up into the handpiece whilst the operator physically moves and manipulates the treatment area, this additional pulling from the vacuum means that the efficacy of the treatment is greatly improved over traditional, manual massage.
In addition to this, the Multipolar Radiofrequency causes water molecules within the skin to vibrate, causing deep heating. This heating causes minimal thermal damage to the inside of the cells which then kickstarts your bodies fibroblast activity, massively boosting collagen and elastin production which all aid in the wound healing response, as well as tightening the skin.
The combination of this deep heating and vacuum massage also boosts circulation and blood flow to the area, which brings more oxygenated blood into the area to help improve the wound healing response.
*What are your future plans?
If we can get this machine with gofundme, your donation to our medical fundraiser will help us give back to our community. At that point we won't be £20k + vat in the hole and so the campaign means we'll be able to give back to national or local charities. We expect to see one patient a week who we can give a chance to live a normal life again and it's your donation that will help us become more involved with our local community. This will be nonprofit, our industry isn't just about the dollars. It's about helping people.
We will only be able to do this with the goodwill of others so it feels right to us we can then help the lives of others without them needing to give us a financial contribution. The person could be a local mother who has had a traumatic birth, or cyclist who had surgery after a road accident or any other deserving cause within our neighbourhood or beyond.
