Hi! My name is Karen Cropper. I retired on medical disability in 2010. In 2018, I found myself in a difficult situation and felt it best to leave my western home and move 1800 miles away. Before leaving, I took my 2012 Chevy Sonic to a “reputable” franchise of a well-known transmission repair brand. $5K later, I really needed to leave, so I took off on a 3-day drive across the country. Through the kindness of my cousin, I moved into her home at a rent I could afford. She has since moved in with her daughter, and her brother and I share the house.
On the same day my knee was replaced, the cousin who lived in the same house was in a serious car wreck, courtesy of a drunk driver. He was seriously injured and his truck was a total loss. He won’t be able to drive for months as he is and will be in a hard neck brace.
Yesterday, after having the staples removed from my 2/3 knee replacement, the transmission in my little car completely failed after only 6 years and 8000 miles. Now there are two old people both with multiple doctor’s appointments, one driver, and no vehicles, and tight budgets. My Social Security barely meets my needs and does not extend to major expenditures!
Any help would be most appreciated. I should be able to get a transmission in my little car for about $6,000.
