Help SAR K9 Ferro get needed surgery
Meet K9 Ferro my 1 yo GSD/Husky. My name is Todd Stewart. My wife Karen and I
adopted Ferro after he was rescued from the Pine Bluffs reservation in South
Dakota. He could barely stand up he was so malnourished. When we brought him
home at 10 weeks old, he only weighed 10 lbs. Now he's a strong 72 lbs. with
excellent toy-drive which is essential in a working dog. Ferro is in training to
become a certified SAR K9, but an injury is putting his service career at risk. 2
weeks ago Ferro tore is left Crania Cruciate Ligament. Because of his size, age and
being a working dog, Ferro will have to have Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy
(TPLO) surgery. This surgery will cost between $3,500 and $4,000. He has an
appointment on Jan. 7th at Iowa State University’s top-notch Veterinary Medical
School. His surgery should happen very soon after that. I have enough money to
cover this next appointment (exams, new imaging. etc) which will be $500, but I
cannot afford this surgery. My work as a SAR operator is volunteer, and I am
responsible for all of Ferro's medical costs. Until his Jan. appointment he is
confined so he doesn't injure his knee further. Ferro is my first SAR K9 partner.
He has huge potential for air-scent, tracking and if he is very good, FEMA
certification for confined and collapsed space rescue. Any funds raised will be
used only for K9 Ferro's medical costs. I will post records for any monies spent
from this fund so everyone can see exactly where their donations go. Any money
raised over the target will be donated to a local animal rescue. Ferro is my best
buddy and my partner. The bond between a working dog and his partner is
something I cannot explain. It is truly special. To see a K9 with such potential
to save lives not be able to fulfill that potential would be so very sad. I would be
so grateful for any help you might give.
-Thank you and God bless. -Todd Stewart
