Help Juwon and Anna: graduation work stolen
We are establishing the fund for JUWON and ANNA
Juwon Lee and Anna Hijmans are Korean and Canadian graduate students from KABK(Royal Academy of Art, The Hague) fine arts department.
Situation
On June 11th 2021, during their set up for the final show, Juwon’s laptop, hard drive, charger, and Anna’s iPad were stolen out of their presentation space, leaving the backpack they were stored in completely empty.
Although Juwon always saves her work in case her computer were to break or crash, she was not expecting everything including her hard drive, files, backups etc. to be stolen all together and in a space where she is supposed to feel safe. Her work relies on digital spaces, video games and 3d printing/modelling, all of which - together with 7 years of art, documentation, data and files - are now lost to her forever. She is now scrambling to graduate by remaking some of her more recent projects, but without the proper equipment it has been an extremely difficult task.
Anna is in a slightly different situation, as she had lent Juwon her iPad in order for Juwon to show a video game for her final presentation. Although her own graduation does not rely strictly on the files in her iPad she had bought it new in February after saving up for half a year, and in many ways it was one of her most newly prized possessions. It was primarily intended to help her expand her drawing and digital practice, and to aid in future 3d projects, the progress of which is now also lost.
What we can do for them
We are hoping to raise funds in order to help them restore a portion of what they lost. Although the work they put into these objects is gone, lending a hand in funding their new equipment will go a long way in starting the recovery of lost time and helping them regain some semblance of normalcy.
