<div>Juno is five years old, and has already overcome so much. She was found dumped - tied to a tree, full of milk with no puppies in sight, desperate to get out of the hot, TX sun. Despite that beginning, she is incredibly cuddly and the happiest little dog. She’s my first officially adopted dog and has been by my side through everything, including a cross-country move from Texas to California. She truly is my family.

<div>A few days ago, Juno suddenly became lethargic and had trouble breathing. I rushed her to the ER, where the vets discovered liver toxicity caused by a new medication. It was a rare, completely unpredictable side effect that no one expected. They also found mild pneumonia, which was making it difficult for her to heal. She was sent home with antibiotics, but by the next day her condition worsened.

<div>I knew I needed to bring her back when she wouldn’t walk or eat her favorite treats. The team thought she might just need overnight IV antibiotics to get treatment started faster. Instead, things progressed far more quickly in the opposite direction than anyone anticipated. Her breathing deteriorated, and they found 0.5 liters of fluid in her chest. A CT scan showed her pneumonia had rapidly worsened, and a small lung abscess had formed.

<div>Before they could treat it, the abscess ruptured and led to sepsis.

<div>To save her, surgeons had to remove a lobe of her lung and wash out her chest cavity. Juno spent several days in critical care on oxygen while recovering from the surgery.

<div>Today, Juno is finally home and resting, but she has a long recovery ahead - follow-up appointments, medications, careful monitoring, and the possibility of other setbacks. She’s being such a trooper through all of it and is just relieved to be home.
</div>

<div>While I do have pet insurance, it maxes out at $20k per year. Juno’s emergency care and surgery have already reached $24k, with another $3–5k expected in follow-up care.
</div>

<div>This all happened unexpectedly and very quickly, and it’s more than I can manage alone. Any amount, truly any, would help support Juno’s recovery and means so much to us. Or even sharing our story!
