Help Julia Build a Sensory Pathway at Clyde Brown

Hello, My name is Julia Schofield and I am a senior at Millis High School. For my senior project I would like to install a sensory pathway at Clyde Brown. I had planned to design and cut the vinyl myself, but through my research I have learned that to create a sensory path that can withstand foot traffic and remain durable and safe the design elements really need to be made with commercial grade materials.

 

A sensory hallway is a series of decals on the walls and floors that create an interactive pathway for students to follow, giving them focus and allowing the students to burn excess energy that could prevent them from focusing in the classroom. For many kids, having to sit still and be quiet through an entire school day can seem like an impossible task. While most schools have physical education and recess built into the day, for some students, it’s simply not enough. Luckily, a lot of teachers and classrooms are becoming more aware of this need and are making changes to help those kids. Some teachers allow kids to keep fidgets at their desk or during circle time, while others have replaced regular chairs with alternative classroom seating. Sensory hallways are a great way to add some extra sensory input for fidgeting kids throughout the day. Sensory hallways allow the transitions between lunch, recess, and classrooms to be interactive and fun!
