Help Jules and her Family rebuild their life

Donation protected

Jules Sherlock is known to many as the charismatic, energetic and caring woman behind Fitness with Jules, classes at the Glebe Community Centre, creating and implementing free social programs for families with new babies, Boxing and Bootcamp classes, and most recently working with the Parkinson's community sharing her passion for boxing and yoga. She has been at the hub of the Ottawa Fitness community for many years as a coach, a volunteer and an influencer.

Recently, Jules and her family (her daughter Summer and her husband Chris) were forced to evacuate from their family home after the discovery of toxic levels of black mold. The level of toxicity found was 25x what is considered to be safe and as such their home and it’s contents require remediation. Although they have home insurance, there is no insurance that covers mold infiltration, and anything that can not be remediated will need to be destroyed.

There is an even bigger concern when it comes to their health and the consequences resulting from their exposure to the mold. All three have experienced health concerns and now must endure a litany of tests to determine if the damage can be reversed.

As a community, as friends we want to try and ease the pressure they are experiencing. We are looking to raise funds (upwards of $20,000.00 is needed for remediation alone) to help them cover the costs of the remediation and help them get back home as soon as possible. We want them all to get healthy and we want to see Jules back doing what she is passionate about…inspiring us to be healthy!

They are eternally grateful for the support and even the smallest donation will help them on their journey back. If you are unable to donate please lend a hand by sharing this page.

Background Info

In April 2020, Jules, Summer and Chris moved into his parents’ home after his parents had both passed away - his mother from pulmonary fibrosis and his father from heart failure. As the weeks passed all three began to feel unwell. Chris began coughing. Jules began losing weight, felt tired and became confused. Summer having been diagnosed with Autism and ADHD became alarmingly withdrawn and depressed. Summer spent long periods of time at CHEO and Jules took time off work to care for her. Recently another set back with Summer’s health led to a cat-scan that determined a brain disease called Nodular Heterotopia and a placement in an intensive in-patient program at the Royal Ottawa.

Two weeks ago , Jules overheard a conversation about illness and black mold. She sought out a leading mold specialist in Ottawa and they were immediately evacuated from their home. They have moved into a hotel close to Summer’s school and are working hard to better understand what caused the mold, what can be done to reverse it and the long term implications of their exposure.
