My wife(Katie)and I(Josh) first met at a summer camp program for kids with special needs. We were the counselors, not the kids... We were both getting our degrees at the time to become teachers so we hit it off right away. After getting our careers underway, we married in June of 2013 and decided it was time to try and have a child. Two and a half years later, we discovered that we were unable to conceive naturally. For a while we thought that we would just focus on our careers and make the most of life without having children. It was a hard decision, and one we thought we’d be okay with, but it turns out that being parents and raising a child is the only thing we really want. It’s the big piece of the puzzle that’s missing, so we really want to do in-vitro fertilization. The only problem now is money. Our insurance does not cover any of the in-vitro costs, so if we want to have a baby, we’ve got to come up with another $26,000 more than the $10,000 we have in our savings.
The money raised will be used for genetic testing, blood work, medications, injections, medical procedures, lab work, embryo freezing, and in-vitro fertilization. The company we’re using for this is Shady Grove out of Harrisburg, PA and they guarantee a pregnancy or your money back, so it’s a pretty sure thing if we do raise the funds.
We need the money as soon as possible as Katie and I are in our mid-30’s and with every passing month and year, the risks associated with pregnancy rise. We know we definitely want to have at least one child, but we’ll probably try to have another in a year or two after the first. Once the embryos are frozen, they’re viable for a very long time. A baby was just born from an embryo that was more than 20 years old last week.
Nothing could mean more to Katie and I than your support in trying to start a family. As teachers and athletes,(Katie teaches fitness classes and I’m kind of a fitness maniac) we know we’d be truly awesome parents. Help us make a baby and you’ll be helping us create someone who might change the world for the better. At the very least, you’ll be changing ours.
