Father and Son Venezuelan Refugees

This is a campaign to get Iván, a 13-year-old boy out of the disastrous crisis in Venezuela and reunite him with his father in Peru. 



Iván's father, Jorge Torres needs funds for plane and bus tickets to travel from Peru, where he has refugee status,  to Venezuela, where his son lives with Jorge's mother and back again to Peru, this time with his son.  A Venezuelan native, Jorge left his home country in 2016 and found refuge in Peru, where he devotes himself to being an outstanding member of his new community.
He was unable to take his son with him when he left and has been making plans for the past year to get his son out of the devastating ongoing economic crisis in Venezuela and take him to the safety of a new home in Peru where he knows he son will thrive.



 Jorge,  and I became friends while I was traveling in Pisac, Peru in 2016 for 3 weeks. He is extremely kind and intelligent and capable of making a huge impact on the world. He is ambitiously working to help the lives of everyone around him, using his training in psychotherapy, art therapy, and medicinal ceremonies. He is also focused on making healthy, sustainable products available to the local community. He works extremely hard in  up to five jobs at once in order to acheive his dream of making a new life for himself and his son. He is extremely determined to get his son, telling me that in two months, he is going to Venezuela and getting his son, even if he has to walk there.

I believe that Iván Alejandro Torres has much to give to the world and he deserves to live in a country with better conditions for his development. He is 13 years old, has gold metals in martial arts and swimming, and is a talented musician and visual artist. I greatly admire him because he is always creating things."

My name is Kaitlin Berger-Jones and I live in Prescott, Arizona. I met Jorge Torres when I traveled to Pisac, Peru in December 2016. In the three weeks I spent there, we became good friends and have kept in touch ever since. Soon after we became friends, I learned his story of how he had to leave his family and friends behind in Venezuela and how he was working to make life better for those he left behind, and I decided to help. Earlier this year, Jorge successfully organized and executed the relocation of four Venezuelans from Venezuela to Peru. Previously, his son was not able to make the move due to conflicts with documentation.

The funds we raise will go towards: documentation fees for Ivan, travel by plane from Peru to Colombia, then from Colombia to Venezuela for Jorge, Travel from Venezuela back to Colombia, and then Peru for both Jorge and Ivan, food and accomodation while traveling.

Funds raised will be transferred by me to Jorge through Paypal.
