Help Jonathan get to Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics

Donation protected

This is a fundraiser for my brother Jonathan to help him compete in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games in Short Track Speed Skating. Jonathan Moody, two time Junior British Champion, helped Britain qualify a men’s 1500m Olympic spot by placing in the top 36 at World Cup qualifiers during the 2017/2018 competition season. It also saw him place in the top 16 overall at the Junior World Championships including 10th place in the 1500m & in the process breaking a British Record that had stood since 2009.

Your donation will help Jonathan get to more competitions in preparation for the Olympics. He will also be able to reduce the number of work shifts he does each week to pay for training and equipment related costs, in order to spend more time focussing on his training on and off the ice.

Why £21,000? Setting a target is difficult as it will take a lot to get him there. However, knowing he will receive whatever funds are received even if the target is not reached, I thought wouldn't it be cool to raise £21,000 for his 21st year (he just recently turned 21 without any fanfare). If 1000 people gave £21 each or 210 gave £100... that sounds attainable!

So please help make his 21st memorable! All money raised will be sent directly to him (minus Go Fund Me’s fees - 2.9% plus 25p per donation). Below is a message from him:

“Hi, my name is Jonathan Moody, I am 21 years old and currently training in Nottingham. I have been chosen to represent Great Britain at this year’s Short Track Speed Skating (STSS) World Cups, aiming for the 2022 and 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

Originally from New Zealand, I started  speed skating there when a friend invited me to a public STSS session. Unlike most skaters, this was my first time ever on ice, I have loved it ever since. I was then 12 years old.

Within a year my family ended up in the United States for 10 months when iceskating opportunities were very limited as the nearest club (& ice rink) was a four hour drive away. Unfortunately at the end of our time there I broke my leg at a training session which put me out of sport for over nine months.

In 2013, I moved with my family to the UK. Finding a club half an hour away, I tried again and  within a year decided I wanted to seriously start pursuing the sport.

With family support I was able to fund myself in a full-time training program back in America for a month. Shortly after my return from the USA I was invited to train with the British STSS team for a trial period. This trial period then became an invitation to join the GB Team permanently and I have had the joy and privilege of being part of the team for several years.

Unfortunately our funding has recently been cut. My parents brought me up believing what Nick Vujicic says, “You should never live according to what you lack. Instead, live as though you can do anything you dream of doing”. My dream is to win Gold at the Olympics and hard work, perseverance and a good team behind me can get me there. It would be great to have you share this journey with me”.

“Jonathan is an excellent example of dedication, consistency and professionalism. His day-to-day process is thorough and deliberate, and a characteristic of someone committed to the journey required for long-term success… Jonathan is able to deliver both effort and performance with unwavering reliability... [he] is a person who shows commitment, determination and maturity beyond his years...”

“... Jono is well known within the staff team for the professional and conscientious approach that he takes towards his work. The program places high physical and psychological demand on all of the athletes, however I have never seen Jono’s work-ethic waiver. He displays and impressive ability to remain focused and hold his work standards to a certain level even in times of high fatigue. I believe that Jono is an incredibly driven young athlete, who set himself aspirational targets but has the work-ethic to match... Jonathan is kind and supportive of others,... [he] Jonathan is kind and supportive of others will often go above and beyond for the greater good of the team and will always be one of the first to assume responsibility within the group...”
