Help Johnnie Brown Freedom Trail Bus Fire Fund

Local gem and owner of the “Freedom Trail” Black heritage tour, Johnnie Brown, suffered a devastating blow last night when his tour bus was torched and burned in a suspicious fire. For over 20 years Johnnie has driven thousands of tourists and locals around town on his tour bus, educating them about the legacy and contributions African Americans have made to Savannah. The original Freedom Trail tour was inspired by the late great Civil Rights leader, Westly Wallace “WW” Law. Johnnie Brown’s tour continues and expands upon WW Law’s legacy of excellence and service to the community. Johnnie worked hard and saved his money over many years to buy the tour bus which is the lifeblood of his business. It is an especially cruel time of year to have something so horrific completely shut down his livelihood and lifelong achievement.

Quote from Johnnie:

“It’s a tough pill to swallow you know what I mean, this is my everything. It took me a number of years to build up what I have. I had to work odd jobs and whatever to keep this going. We had the pandemic--I survived that. Hurricane Matthew...I survived that. And to come and see that this is all I have now, and it’s just, wow, you know. This is a part of me, you know. It’s not a person it’s material, but then again, I put so much effort into this and so many years trying to build it up, and to see what it has become…."

Let’s show Johnnie how much we love and appreciate all he does for so many different communities in our beautiful city. All funds raised with your generous support with be used to help Johnnie and his family to rebuild and purchase a new bus and other items he lost in the fire.
