I'm an adult student of European & Military History recovering from a brain injury & PTSD. I've returned to school after an eleven year hiatus, caused in part by injuries sustained as a victim of home invasion. I currently have a 3.92 GPA at Southern New Hampshire University where I'm considering trading the History double-concentration for a second major in the form a BS in Geosciences. I'd like to transfer to Stetson University in DeLand, Florida to pursue a BA in Russian, Eastern European and Eurasian Studies!
I would be the first member of my immediate family to attain a Bachelor degree and the first in my father's line to do so (his mother's parents and his father were Jewish Ukrainian immigrants fleeing Catherine II and Stalin respectively). I very much look forward to using my degree in the furtherance of democratic values, US national security and public service.
I graduated from Cherry Creek High School in Greenwood Village, Colorado as my campus' Student Body President, a Student Senator, Peer Councilor and as a Mentor within the greater school's largest club (Creek Outdoor Leadership Training) where I was once awarded member of the year out of over a thousand candidates.
After high school I was pursuing a degree in Computer Network Engineering before withdrawing (with enough transfer credit to add an IT minor to my prospective degree) so that I could tend to my mother after my father's passing.
I hold an Associate of Occupational Studies degree in Gunsmithing. While attaining this degree from the Colorado School of Trades I participated in the Student Gun Club (beginning the Club's affiliation with the Senate-chartered Civilian Marksmanship Program) and the Student Martial Arts Club (where I was both a contender for the championship of and referee for the grappling division).
During my years of academic hiatus I spent some of my time interning with a retired Air Force Cyber Transfer Systems SSgt turned private consulting researcher/lecturer in cyber & asymmetric warfare. I've also been helping take day-to-day care of my widowed mother, almost exclusively since the lecturer's retirement from the public eye.
I've already begun independent study of Russian history and the Russian language using Rosetta Stone and The Great Courses to ensure I can hit the ground running when I start at Stetson. I've found I have a gift for languages and am simultaneously learning some American Sign Language. I've been an astute student of history and culture my entire life. Human history is the greatest story ever written. Thus I find it fascinating. Truth is far better than fiction and while history doesn't exactly repeat, it certainly rhymes. Thus it's invaluable in understanding current events AND predicting future ones. I'm good at this. Help me become great.

Southern New Hampshire University is a traditional private university founded in 1932 that has expanded into the online venue. US News & World Report currently ranks SNHU as the #1 Most Innovative School in the United States.
Stetson is a private non-profit university with phenomenal facilities, a remarkable staff and a long, storied history. However, the tuition is currently about $42,000/year! This tuition does NOT include the cost of travel & boarding abroad that will be a part of this major's capstone. US News currently ranks Stetson as the #5 Best Regional University in the South.
While Stetson University is particularly good at finding financial aid for students, my responsibility will still likely be in the tens of thousands. I intend to adjust my funding goal as I receive scholarships and learn the exact costs of study overseas.
I like to spend much of my free time reading, listening to audiobooks, cooking, playing video games, hiking, kayaking, enjoying my favorite TV shows, absorbing news from varied sources, practicing amateur astronomy, becoming a better photographer/astroimager, participating in political/social activism, practicing Aikido and supporting philanthropic causes. However, what's most important to me is time with family and good friends.
As I mentioned above, I am entirely of Ashkenazi Ukrainian descent on my father's side. However, I also have a great deal of traditionally Christian Ukrainian ancestry on my mother's side as well. This seems to have given me a tongue for Russian, which I'm picking up quite fast! My mother's side also includes ancestry of Irish, Scottish, French, Luxembourger and German descent.
My injuries include a fairly bad case of neurological tinnitus that continues to persist. I also suffer from PTSD as a result of the attack. In addition to my injuries as a victim of violent crime, I am afflicted with moderately severe scoliosis that can at times limit my mobility. I've received a great deal of medical treatment and done a lot of healing, both physical and mental. It's now time to continue my formal education! I'm entirely reliant on limited income from my hobby photographic & graphic design work and a small inheritance from my father that covers my room & board. My family is of great assistance to me but cannot hope to cover such a great expense.
Please help me make a positive difference in the world by helping me reach this educational funding goal! All help is tremendously appreciated! In the event that I do not attend Stetson for any reason I will still spend 100% of the donations on my education in this field. Regardless, I'll be keeping all donors updated on the progress of my education! Thank you so much!
The goal represents my out of pocket cost of attending two years at SNHU. The goal will be adjusted as I obtain scholarships or if I transfer to Stetson. Should I complete my degree at SNHU, I would still intend to enroll in Stetson's graduate program. Quite frankly I never intend to stop learning and also have academic interests that include international studies, journalism, languages, mechatronics, planetary science, political science, psychology, space studies, strategic studies and unmanned systems.
