Help Johan Schmitt Fund His Lower Back Surgery

Hi, my name is Will Schmitt and I'm fundraising for my father, Johan Schmitt's surgery to fix his back.

My father is 56 years old, and has worked hard his entire life to support our family to help us through everything but over time the work had caught up to him. 6 years ago he was forced to stop working due to his back, and we learned that many of the plates between the vertebrae in his back had been sheared away, causing him chronic pain that has progressively gotten worse since that time. He has gone through treatments for cortisone injections for the pain, and tried many different medications to help with it but even with those he is forced to walk with a cane and is not even able to sleep for more than a couple hours because staying still for even moderate periods of time makes the pain too much for him to handle. His wife Helena is also unable to work due to many health issues of her own such as liver cirrhosis and diabetes, among other things. He has found a doctor who is willing to do the surgery for him, but it is expensive and will have a long recovery time.
