Help Joey Perform With "Jesus"

Donation protected

SUMMARY

How cool would it be to get an opportunity to spend a year 1) doing what you love (performing on stage), 2) learning from experts in your field, 3) being discipled by those who share your goals and passions, and 4) sharing God’s truth in a powerful and entertaining way to hundreds of thousands of people?!

Help my son Joey Faggion do exactly that!  In June, he auditioned and was accepted into the 2018 class of the Sight & Sound Conservatory (http://sightsoundconservatory.com/ ) near Lancaster, PA.  They only accept 10 students a year into the program (this year - three guys and seven gals) out of scores who audition.  Joey will be performing in the brand new musical “Jesus”.

It is a 12 month program, with the expressed goal of investing in the next generation of Christ centered performing artists by mentoring them both as a performer, and a disciple of Christ; with (1) classroom instruction in Acting, Singing, Dancing and other relevant courses; (2) providing the opportunity to perform in Sight & Sound Theatres Professional Stage Productions; (3) cultivating a lifestyle of character, commitment and competence.

Joey’s older sister Ellie is a current student at the conservatory (with the musical “Jonah”) and is having an amazing year.  She will readily testify to how much she has grown in her skills and her faith, and she is only a little over halfway through. In fact, here is a video testimony from Ellie .  For additional conservatory student video testimonies, see the MORE TESTIMONIES section below.

Joey is currently working three jobs to earn as much as possible to pay for the conservatory, all while trying to finish up high school.  Due to the demands of the conservatory program, he will have no time to work part-time during the year at conservatory.  Therefore, he must have the tuition and all the money he needs to live for the year with him when he leaves in early January.

And thus the reason for this page!  Based on Joey’s sister’s experience, we expect that Joey will need to come up with about $20,000 beyond what he will earn in the next few months to cover tuition, rent, food, car, and other expenses.

Please consider being a part of Joey’s journey toward being a highly talented and bright light in the musical theatre world while helping to reach hundreds of thousands with the powerful message of “Jesus”.  Any gift will be a big help and is greatly appreciated.  We’re hoping to secure all of the needed finances by Thanksgiving, if possible, so we can focus with him on prepping for January.

And keep an eye out for news about a fundraising event in the fall.  Joey, his siblings and theatre friends are planning to put on a show at a theatre in the Raleigh area.

For more details about Joey, what he will be doing at Sight and Sound and his needs, please continue reading below.  Thanks for taking time to consider our request and for anything you can do to help.  Please share this page with your friends.  And for those of you who value prayer, please lift Joey up as he pursues this amazing adventure!

MORE ABOUT JOEY

Joey is a seventeen year old homeschooler. When he first performed on stage at the age of 4, he fell in love with musical theatre. He has routinely created and acted in small skits and sketches with his siblings and has also participated for 13 years in a local community theatre, Spiritual Twist Productions.

In recent years, he’s concluded that pursuing theatre professionally is God’s current direction for him and has assertively sought outlets to learn and perform, which has included branching out to other theatres in the Raleigh area. He’s performed in roles such as Gaston (Beauty and the Beast), Monsieur Richard (Phantom of the Opera), Daniel (Daniel), and Will Scarlet (Scarlet), just to name a few.

Joey decided to audition for the Sight and Sound Conservatory after hearing stories of her big sister’s experiences there, seeing how she is growing in her skills and faith, and then being blown away at the quality of Sight and Sound while seeing his sister perform in the current show, “Jonah”.

MORE ABOUT SIGHT AND SOUND THEATRE & CONSERVATORY

The Sight and Sound Conservatory is located near Lancaster, PA, in the heart of a region rich with prestigious theatres and theatre schools, and is associated with the renowned Sight and Sound Theatre, which has a location in Branson, MO as well as PA (https://www.sight-sound.com/ ).

The year long conservatory program features a variety of intensive classes including Improvisation, Voice and Speech, Singing for the Stage, Stage Combat, Musical Theatre Dance, and many more, in addition to a year long discipleship class.

More importantly, applying what is taught in the classroom, the conservatory students will perform on the Sight & Sound stage as cast members alongside the professional cast in approximately ten shows a week!   This not only strengthens skills, but helps students evaluate whether the theatre life is for them as they experience first hand what it is like to be on stage doing the same show over and over again for months on end.

For those of you not familiar with Sight and Sound Theatre, it is an extremely popular tourist attraction and draws visitor from all over the US. The theatre in PA seats 2000 people and has a 15,000 square foot stage. If you have never been there, add it to your list of todos for 2018.  Come see Joey perform onstage!

And what a great year to be in the conservatory, with Sight & Sound premiering a brand new musical this year, "Jesus".  As a student, Ellie has been able to read a draft script for the new show and says it will be amazing!  Here is a teaser.

MORE ABOUT THE NEED

As mentioned in the overview, the intense conservatory schedule doesn’t provide students time to work a separate job.   Thus, the GoFundMe page for Joey targeting $20,000.

Joey has already saved $1000 from his work, and knows that we (his parents) plan to help with some funding as we did for Ellie.  Joey plans to work the three jobs he has as many hours as he can this year while finishing up highschool.  And unfortunately, typical college financial aid, grants and savings plans (our 529 plan) don’t apply for the conservatory.

Having solid input from Ellie’s experience, it looks like all expenses including prep to go, setting up an apartment, rent (assuming 1-2 roommates to share costs), food, auto (insurance, gas, maintenance), travel, basics (e.g., toiletries, clothes), tuition, and a small emergency buffer will total around $30,000.  Joey expects to cover $10,000-$12,000 with his work and help from his parents.

We invite you to help Joey perform with “Jesus” via prayer and giving.  Your gifts of any amount will help ensure Joey can attend and focus his efforts on helping to communicate the gospel to hundreds of thousands who will come to see “Jesus”, all why honing his craft.  Please contact us if you have any questions, and thank you for joining with us.
