My partner, Joel, a loving 25-year-old father and the sole provider for our family, was abducted by ICE on his way to work, leaving me and our 10-month-old daughter without income, stability, or answers.

<div>Joel came to the United States at 16 years old, full of hope for a better education and a safer future. Soon after arriving, we met as teenagers and built a life together based on love, hard work, and dreams for our family. Joel worked tirelessly as a landscaper, often leaving before sunrise to provide for us. He is gentle, responsible, and deeply devoted to our daughter. He has always been a hardworking young father focused on creating a better life for his family.

<div>On a Saturday morning, Joel left home to join his carpool to work, just as he did every day. At approximately 6:40 a.m., unmarked vehicles aggressively surrounded their car, nearly causing a collision. Joel, the driver, and another passenger were forced out of the vehicle. Hours passed with no information, and it was not until 5 p.m. that I learned he had been taken by ICE.

<div>What followed was a nightmare no family should have to endure. Joel was held for five days in Baltimore in a facility not approved for detention, where he reports being denied food and water and forced to sleep on the floor. He was then transferred to Pennsylvania for four days, Louisiana for three days, back to Pennsylvania for one night, and ultimately deported to Guatemala without the opportunity to say goodbye to his baby daughter.

<div>I am now 22 years old and caring for our 10-month-old daughter alone. Joel was our only source of income, and his sudden deportation has left us struggling to meet even our most basic needs, including rent, food, diapers, and other essentials for our child. We are doing everything we can to stay afloat, but we cannot get through this difficult time without help.

<div>This was more than an arrest—it was the traumatic separation of a young family that had worked hard to build a life together. Despite the heartbreak and uncertainty, I am determined to remain in the United States so our U.S. citizen daughter can have the education and opportunities she deserves.
