Moranbah locals, Jodi and Linsi Satinie have three children, two of whom have severe afflictions.
Maeri, their daughter, who is almost 3, has a rare genetic condition, Wieacker-Wolff Syndrome. This condition presents many health concerns, including several muscular and neurological issues. Maeri is unable to walk and will need a wheelchair.
Harlen, their four year old son, has also been diagnosed with a rare genetic condition, Becker Muscular Dystrophy. The condition is a degenerative disease, affecting the muscles of the hips, pelvic area, thighs, and shoulders, as well as the heart. As a result of his condition he could also become wheelchair-bound.
In January 2020, Jodi was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, to add to the family woes.
On a recent trip to Mackay for more treatment, the family hit a kangaroo and their car was written off.
When former Australian professional rugby league footballer, Trevor Gillmeister, heard their story he knew he had to help.
Trevor approached Mackay City Auto Group Dealer Principal, Ky Vogler and when he heard the story he knew he had to help too!
After a quick phone call to Kia Australia, the team quickly jumped on board. Mackay City Auto and Kia Australia have significantly discounted their Kia Carnival, to allow the family to purchase a brand new car to get them back on the road.
With Maeri's need for a motorised wheelchair quickly approaching, the Kia Carnival will need to be converted to allow for wheelchair access.
Mackay City Auto Group, together with Trevor Gillmeister, has started this Go Fund Me page to help the Satinie family. With a wheelchair conversion costing upwards of $20,000 (which may partially be covered by NDIS, however, there are no guarantees) and ongoing medical and travel expenses for both Maerie and Harlen, the family need the Mackay community to make life a little easier for them.
