My name is JJ Smith, and I started my cafe with my own savings just one year ago, determined to create a place where everyone—especially those on a tight budget or experiencing homelessness—could find a warm meal and a sense of community. In this short time, my cafe has become more than just a place to eat. It’s a safe space where people can connect with family, find support for rehab and detox, and get help when they need it most. I’ve always tried to give back to my community, offering affordable meals and programs that make a real difference in people’s lives. 
 
 
 
 Recently, disaster struck when a tenant in the low-income housing above my cafe accidentally broke a fire sprinkler. Water poured into my restaurant for two hours, causing extensive damage. My equipment and food supplies were ruined, a hole was left in my roof, and my floors were destroyed. The impact has been devastating—not just for me, but for the many people who rely on my cafe every day. 
 
 
 
 The funds raised will help me replace damaged equipment and food, buy materials to repair the floors, and cover essential bills like rent, PG&amp;E, cable, and water while my business is closed. With no income coming in, I’m struggling to keep up with these expenses and keep hope alive for reopening.
