Help Jimmy Barrientos create an Eco Organic Farm

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jimmy Barrientos ,

As an official tourist guide in Cusco, Peru I have been working for Amazonas Explorer since 2012.

As we all know, COVID-19 has stopped our normal life and everyone that used to work in tourism has been badly affected with no work since March and no future work till possibly 2021.

Personally, I am trying to reinvent myself and I have a project, which I would like to make possible with your help, creating my very own Eco Organic Farm.

My family owns some land near Ollantaytambo, just near where the Inca Trail starts. During the last month I have spent my time there cleaning and working the land to  get it ready for farming.

The first weeks in October are planting season for pumpkins and others vegetables I plan to produce.

I'm looking to raise US$ 2000 (£1572) and this will allow me to:

·       Buy seeds, organic fertilizers, etc.

·       Hire people to help during the planting / harvest season and  to help with the land maintenance

.       The people I propose to employ will be same group of Inca Trail porters that I have been working with for the last two months making mud bricks to build  and repair houses around the local community, near where my families land is located.

This project will help not only me to support my family but it will also help to support 5 – 7 porter’s families.

This is the houses we have been repairing with Enrique ( a cook for Amazonas Explorer) Moises, Yuri and Celedonio (porters for Amazonas Explorer)

I hope that tourism will resurface and soon then I can continue with my passion of guiding tourists around Peru and to Machu Picchu.

When the tourist season starts again, I hope to be able to run my  Eco Organic Farm in parallel with my guiding services for Amazonas Explorer. I hope, in the near future, I will be able to show you my farm as part of my guiding services.

Thank you for any help you can provide me with.

Jimmy,

How it works:

I, Paul Cripps, owner of Amazonas Explorer have agreed to help set up these Gofundme crowdfunding pages for my guides who are struggling to make ends meet whilst the tourism industry implodes in Peru. We hope it will be back one day soon, but for now, they need to reinvent themselves in order to feed their families.

The funds will be collected here in the UK into my account and then I will pay the exact equivalent in Peruvian soles from my Peruvian account into their personal accounts to minimise bank transfer fees and exchange rate fluctuations.

I will also personally contribute the first $150 of each proposal to help them get started. This will be donated directly into their accounts to avoid charges.

Our guides provide a big part of the magic of any trip to Peru and it is their personal touches, professionalism, wit and charm that makes each trip they guide unforgettable.

So,  if you enjoyed your trip to Peru with one of our guides, please give what you can.

I know times are difficult everywhere but these guides are true heroes, their projects are borne out a desire to survive this pandemic and come out the other side better for the experience.

If you can't donate, please share and spread the word to help them achieve their goals.

Let me take this opportunity to thank you so much for anything you can do.
