Help Jim Schommer beat lung cancer

Donation protected
August of this year, Jim went through a series of antibiotics and doctor's visits to treat what we thought was pneumonia. He went into the hospital on Aug 16, and 9 days later was discharged with devastating, life-changing news. Jim has stage 4 adenocarcinoma lung cancer. As most of you know, he has fought and beat cancer before. It's going to be a much rougher road ahead, but through the strength of his dear friends and family like you, we know we can pull together to help him beat it again. He is undergoing 4 treatments of chemotherapy as well as immunotherapy to help blast the tumor and shrink it down to hopefully nothing, so he can put all of this behind him and get back to living life. you all know our mom Debbie has been working countless hours to keep our family afloat - taking Dad to his many doctors appointments, working with a nutritionist and palliative care nurse to get Dad comfortable, not to mention fighting insurance battles all while working her day and night jobs. She is a true rockstar. But the truth is, my parents are prideful and don't want your help. If you ask them what you can do to help they will lie and say nothing. In a traumatic time like this, it's hard for any of us to take a minute and ask for help or figure out what we need. Many of you have reached out asking what you can do or offering to help. They don't want your money. But the reality of our medical industry proves that they could use it, and that it will help. It's impossible to set emotion aside when running through the cost incurred to treat an illness like cancer. My parents have already encountered numerous bills for all of Dad's appointments, hospital stays, procedures to drain his lung, all of his medication, oxygen, treatment, and all of the other fun things that cancer, chemo, and medication interactions bring (thrush, nausea, pain, insomnia, depression - the list goes on). If you do want to help and don't know what to do, consider donating. My parents don't know about this GoFundMe, they certainly won't like it, but it definitely will help. Anything you can and want to do will be great. Let's come together and help our dear friend, father, sibling, Uncle, mayor of the neighborhood, corny-joke-teller, positive influencer, inspiringly-spirited, and new Grandpa, Jim Schommer, kick this cancer and get back to living life.
