My name is Jim, and I am reaching out because I need a lung transplant. I have a type of interstitial lung disease called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. 'Idiopathic' means the cause is unknown, and it’s a bit ironic that I’m the only one of my siblings with a lung disease, especially since I’ve never smoked. Right now, I can’t get out and about without oxygen therapy, and my condition is getting worse as the days go by.

 I am about 25% into the transplant process, but I have lost my income and am struggling to remain in Illinois without a place to stay. Some of the funds I raise will help me cover living expenses so I can stay close to my medical team. The rest will go toward medical bills and other costs that come up as I continue this journey toward a transplant.

 I have four children, though I am currently estranged from two of them. Any extra time I am granted in this world, I want to use to try to reconnect with them. I also dream of completing my national parks list—something that has always brought me joy. Both my biological parents passed in their late 50s, and I am already grateful to have exceeded that. I never expected to live forever, but I always hoped I’d have more time. I am amazed at the technology that could extend life, and I am hopeful, God willing, that it will also extend mine.
