Family says Broward school district keeping 9-year-old with rare form of epilepsy out of school

I am starting this page in my beautiful nieces name. Jillianna is a sweet loving child with special needs. She wants to go to school to learn and be with other kids. Jillian has a form of epilepsy called Dravet and is Autistic.

Due to her seizures her neurologist, Dr. Ian Miller, has prescribed the most common medicine in the world to end a seizure. A dose of Diastat would initially be given with the possibility of a second dose.  The school district in Florida, Broward county, is refusing to follow the doctors prescription. This breaks the disability laws of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act).

It has been heartbreaking to watch Jillian and my sister being isolated during this struggle.  We have been fighting for Jillian's rights since August 2018. Therefore, my sister has had to hire an attorney beyond her means to fight this battle.  This legal issue affects not only Jillian but so many other children in Broward who have epilepsy and are being denied an education.

Without your help, we won't be able to continue fighting for these special children who deserve an education.

Thank you for supporting and believing in children.
