Hi Everyone, I’m Ivana and I’d like you to meet my daughter Jewel. Jewel is 20 years old and has been living with quadriplegic cerebral palsy since birth. This disorder causes her to have constant muscles to spasms, severe muscle tightness, muscle tremors, and many other symptoms which greatly affect her quality of life. Jewel has the kindest personality, is extremely creative, and Jewel truly is a shining light in our lives.
I’m here raising funds for Jewel to receive treatments and therapies to help her have less pain, more comfort in her wheelchair, easier transitions, gain degrees physical mobility, and hopefully just have a much better quality of life.
The first treatment is “Selective Percutaneous Myofascial Lengthening” (SPML) which will help her have less pain in her hips, legs and arms, then “Neuro Movement Therapy (R)” ABM NM to help her learn new ways to transition, sit, and use her legs, and lastly “Feeding Therapy" SLP to support the changes in her posture from SPML so that she can continue to eat safely.
All these treatments and therapies come at great cost, and at this time our insurance company doesn’t cover them. SPML can cost upwards of $18k, Neuro Movement Therapy $5k, and Feeding Therapy $2k, not to mention all the expenses to travel from our home in Maui to Texas where the SPML is offered.
The end goal is to help Jewel access her world like everyone else can and this is hard to do when she is so tight and in constant pain. This will also help me to be able to carry her and help her with transitions and lifts. I used to be able to carry her on my back but she is so tight that this no longer possible due to her movement disorders of high spasticity, high dystonia and athetoid movements.
