<div>There are moments in life when you watch people you love carry more than any one human being should ever have to carry and you realize that strength alone isn’t enough, that sometimes even the strongest hearts need a community to lift them up. Today, I’m asking for that community. I’m asking for compassion. I’m asking for kindness. I’m asking for anyone who reads this to look inside their heart and help two people who have spent their entire lives helping others; my sister, Jessica Anderson, and her husband, David Anderson.

<div>Their story isn’t simple. It isn’t neat. It isn’t the kind of hardship you can summarize in a sentence or two. It’s years of struggle, years of heartbreak, years of doing everything right only to be knocked down again and again by circumstances completely outside their control and yet, through all of it, they’ve kept giving. They’ve kept helping. They’ve kept showing up for the people they love, including me, even when they were drowning themselves.

<div>Jessica and David are facing severe financial hardship, the kind that forces you into impossible decisions. The kind that keeps you awake at night staring at the ceiling, wondering how much more you can take. The kind that eventually led them to file for bankruptcy, not because they were irresponsible, not because they were careless, but because life hit them with blow after blow until they had nothing left to fall back on.

<div>But their story doesn’t start with bankruptcy. It starts much earlier, with a lifetime of giving.

<div>When our mother passed away on June 25, 2023, Jessica stepped up in ways most people never saw. She helped cover financial expenses, she helped hold the family together, she helped carry burdens that weren’t hers alone, because that’s who she is. She has always been the one who quietly shoulders the weight so others don’t have to. She has always been the one who gives even when she has little. She has always been the one who believes that helping others is simply what you do when you have a heart big enough to care.

<div>David, her husband, has spent his life working hard, providing, doing everything he could to take care of his family, but three years ago, everything changed. He was involved in a no‑fault accident while working as a semi‑truck driver. It wasn’t his mistake. It wasn’t his negligence. It wasn’t something he could have prevented, but it shattered his body and his life.

<div>For the past three years, David has endured surgery after surgery, procedure after procedure, all in the hope of being able to walk again without agony. Imagine waking up every day in pain. Imagine not knowing if your legs will ever work the way they once did. Imagine watching your independence slip away while medical bills pile up and your ability to work disappears. That’s the reality David has been living. Through all of this, through the surgeries, the pain, the financial strain Jessica has stood by him, caring for him, supporting him and fighting for him. She has been his advocate, his strength, his partner in every sense of the word.

<div>But life wasn’t done testing them.

<div>Three years ago, they bought a home, a place they hoped would finally give them stability, a fresh start and a chance to rebuild. They poured every dollar they had into renovating it. They hired a general contractor who promised to help them turn it into a safe, livable space. Instead, that contractor took their money and never finished the job. They were left with a half‑renovated house, empty bank accounts, and no recourse. They had to pay out of pocket for repairs that should have been covered. They had to stretch every dollar until it snapped.

<div>Then, when things were already unbearably tight, they had to make another impossible decision, they had to include that home in their bankruptcy. They lost the place they had invested their hopes in. They lost the place they thought would be their refuge. They lost the place they believed would finally give them a sense of stability after years of chaos.

<div>With nothing left, they used every last dollar they had to move back to Florida, not because they wanted to, but because they had to. David needed better medical care. He needed specialists. He needed doctors who could help him walk again and Florida was where he could get that care.

<div>Even then, even while they were struggling to survive, Jessica stepped up again. She became listed as a second caregiver for me at the Mayo Clinic, alongside my wife, Kalle, in the event that I receive a liver transplant. She didn’t hesitate. She didn’t question. She didn’t say, “I can’t, I’m overwhelmed.” She simply said yes, because that’s who she is. She shows up. She gives. She loves with her whole heart, even when her own world is falling apart.

<div>Now, after years of hardship, years of loss, years of financial devastation and years of medical battles, Jessica and David are at a point where they cannot do this alone anymore. They need help. They need support. They need people with compassionate hearts to step forward and say, “You don’t have to carry this by yourselves.”
