Hello everyone! My name is Jessica and I'm 46 and a single mother of 2 girls currently living in Massachusetts. I am reaching out for help in releasing my transcripts from my prior university so can finish my degree.
I am a passionate learner with a love of linguistics and helping people. In 2010 I was pursuing a double major in Linguistics and Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences at Metropolitan State University of Denver.
I had completed all of the core and general education courses required by the university. I was nearing my senior year when my daughter's mental health took priority. With this in mind, I made a drastic decision to move back to Massachusetts. I believed being closer to my family would give us the support and stability that we needed and I could transfer my coursework to UMass Amherst.
With 3 dogs, 1 cat and my entire life in a U-Haul trailer; I left Colorado with hope.
After we were settled, I applied as a transfer student. All that was left was to wait for my transcripts to complete the application. I called Metro and I was informed that since I had not withdrawn from school correctly, I owed $4,800 for the classes I hadn't taken.
This is the reason that asking for help has been so difficult. I made a mistake. I KNOW that it was my responsibility to read the fine print, to follow through, to make sure my request went through. I had been embarrassed to ask for help. In my haste of downsizing a 4 bedroom house and making arrangements to move, I thought I had done so correctly. This has been devastating for me. I had hope that eventually I would be able to pay it off but 8 years on and I haven't been able to.
With your help, I could release my transcript hold and be able to then apply for the Linguistics program at UMass as soon as possible. I would like to work in a TESOL field focused on community outreach and be able to help those communities that have given me so much.
