Help Jenna get her MSc

Donation protected
Hey! I’m Jenna, thank you for taking the time to look at my campaign, I really appreciate it!

I am currently trying to raise £22,000 in order to complete my MSc Ecology at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) in 2021.

Due to “Brexit” and the UK leaving the EEA in January of 2021, in order to accept a place on my chosen course, I am now required to provide proof of minimum required funds (£11,000 per year, for two years) by May 2021. Since leaving the EU, I am no longer eligible to apply for European scholarships, grants, or loans, and, as I will be studying abroad, I am also ineligible for those provided by UK bodies. This is my dream MSc course, at an amazing university, but I am unable to cover the required funding alone, so any donations are greatly appreciated.

About me and the MSc course:

I have always excelled academically, receiving top grades throughout my academic career despite an extremely unstable home-life. At age 11 was accepted into the National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth, which provided additional extracurricular activities that further fuelled my curiosity and appetite for knowledge. This has continued into my adult life, leading me to pursue a career in Life Sciences.

In 2012, whilst studying in Bristol, I was diagnosed with multiple, chronic, autoimmune diseases, which unfortunately resulted in severe mobility issues, pain, and fatigue, and cut my time at university short. Since that time, and despite my health conditions, I have managed to complete a BSc (Hons) Natural Sciences (Earth Sciences), graduating in September 2020 with First Class Honours.

The life sciences are my passion, and despite my disabilities, it is my dream to work in the environmental sector helping to effect real change in how we interact with the natural world. Climate change and the management of natural resources are huge areas of concern, and it is becoming increasingly important to implement positive change and offset the environmental damage humans are causing. It is also important to monitor and understand the long-term effects of human activities on the natural world in order to prevent irreparable damage such as species extinction.

In order to achieve a career in ecology, a master's degree is a minimum requirement, and The Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) is one of the leading institutions in Europe for life science education. The master's program I have selected in the MSc Ecology, which is a two-year course commencing August 2021. The programme includes modules in biology, zoology, natural resource management, and ecotoxicology, as well as an ecology research thesis. This programme is an excellent gateway into a career in ecology, and graduates from NMBU are highly sort after in the industry. Women are underrepresented in STEM areas, and I believe that I will be an asset to the field once graduated. By studying at NMBU, I will also have the opportunity to continue studying for a further year whilst employed by the university in order to obtain a Ph.D.

Coming from a low economic background, unfortunately, my family is unable to help fund my education, and even saving as much as possible I will be unable to raise the funds required for my master's degree. I don’t want to miss out on such an amazing opportunity that would make an incredible difference to my life and allow me to follow my passion. If I am unable to secure a place on the programme, I will of course refund all donations, however, if accepted, I need to show proof of funds within a couple of weeks of an offer to study being made.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my campaign, and for any donations, it really does mean the world to me.
