Taken by complete surprise, after a routine mammogram, Jenn was diagnosed with stage two, triple-negative breast cancer. Within a week, she was at the oncologist, getting chemo education and nutritional courses, full body PET scans, and now, starting chemotherapy. After eight treatments, she will undergo a lumpectomy and the removal of some lymph nodes. Once surgery is complete, she will be looking at possible radiation treatment if they discover that the chemo did not work, and will be put into clinical trials. Needless to say, these past few weeks have been a whirlwind for Jenn and her loved ones!
We all know Jenn.... she is strong, brave, and a true fighter! No doubt, she will take this on, and kick Cancer’s butt!! She can handle the physical and emotional tolls associated with fighting this disease, however there is also an overwhelming financial burden. Her insurance does not cover the entire cost. They have calculated that there will be an out-of-pocket expense of $14,000. Not to mention the travel costs associated with her husband, George, flying back-and-forth from Florida to be with her and support her through the treatments. Although, they considered doing treatment in Florida, a highly renowned doctor was recommended here, in California, and they are certain this is where Jenn will receive the best treatment. It also gives her the ability to continue to work at Travis AFB as she feels able. At this point, she does plan to continue to work as long as she feels well, and has also been granted leave donation, giving her paid time off. However, she will no longer be able to fly C-17 missions, which generates a significant source of her income. Between this loss of pay, extended recovery times, and bills piling up, finances will be an extra burden that Jenn and George don’t need to worry about! We can help! Let’s allow them to focus on what’s most important—Jenn’s full recovery! I am hoping with small, generous donations, we can alleviate this burden! Please help Jenn in anyway that you can... monetarily, or through prayer and support! She needs us now, more than ever!!
