Hi, my name is Jaymee. I'm 34 years old and I would like to share my story with you. I have an 11 year old and 2 year old daughters. Right after my youngest daughter's first birthday I was diagnosed with stage 3 squamous carcinoma. I fought valiantly for my life with 30 rounds of external radiation, 5 rounds of internal radiation and 6 rounds of cisplatin, a platinum based chemotherapy. Before I could get my remission pet scan I was laid off from work because the doctor put me under quarantine for covid due to my weakened immune system. The state refused to cover me so I could get needed medical care. I didn't know what I was going to do........so I started collecting unemployment because I didn't have any disability insurance. I was living with family and needed a place to live so I saved up money to buy a trailer house from another family member. Moved in successfully to this oasis in the middle of the country surrounded by fields. I was still recovering from my treatments........and felt like a failure as a mother because I could barely take care of myself and youngest daughter physically. But I pushed myself, more and more, everyday. Still not being able to achieve the physical strength and endurance needed to simply mow our yard for 2 1/2 hours without being down for 2-3 days because it hurt so much, and I was popping ibuprofen like tic tacs. 

 

The day after fathers day last year James messaged me for the first time. We had worked several years together on 3rd shift in a warehouse so we knew each other and the friendship had already been established. A month of talking and James professed his undying love and proposed to me in the same night. We spent a weekend in Colorado on an amazing vacation neither of us had been able to afford to do for more than 6 years. Two months later James's grandmother asked us if we had thought about getting married and we told her yes. Grandma got up and left the room and came back with $200 and said, I'm taking the baby, you go get married. We left that night and drove to Colorado again......on October 7th, 2020 I became Mrs. Jaymee Hansen! James moved from Tulsa to be with us. He found a job and we waited for insurance to kick in so I could get that pet scan........................

 

I got a phonecall from my internal medicine doctor that completely devastated me.........the cancer spread to my lymph nodes surrounding my left kidney and is officially stage 4......the average life expectancy for my diagnosis is 8-13 months...........I started chemo that next Wednesday........highest doses possible of Carboplatin, Avastin, and Taxol......it didn't feel like the first time I went through chemo though, this new beast is on a level I can't express in words...My husband held my hand through treatment and promised to never let me go through it alone again......my vein blew from the i.v., one of my molars busted on an eggroll.....I knew from that first treatment it would be the fight of my life.....Got that molar pulled the Wednesday before last, port a cath placed the next day and chemo again last Wednesday. Its been taking about 4 days to recover from treatments. Making my leave time from work a week at a time.

 

 A few weeks ago I asked the biological father of my youngest daughter if he'd sign his rights away so my husband could adopt Morgan. He jumped at the opportunity to never have to pay child support again and agreed to the adoption. The lawyer got his paperwork Monday and confirmed he indeed did sign and fill out all the papers exactly as it should be. Soon James will become Morgan's forever Daddy and I couldn't be happier.

 

 I know that when I leave my daughters behind they'll be cared for, protected, and guided by people who actually love them. My husband and ex-husband have agreed to make sure that my girls will always know and spend time with their sister.

 

 Now, before long I'll be getting ureter stents placed and then the chemo will continue to compound effects and I won't be able to work.....but I'm the person who pays the bills. My husband provides insurance through his work but only brings home on average $125 a week after insurance and child support for his 3 daughters. We've been spending a minimum of $75 a week on prescriptions I need. But we need help. Anything that anyone can spare to help me pay the bills while I'm still here would be greatly appreciated and I would forever be indebted. I know that alot of others are going through hard times as well and completely understand if giving isn't an option. But if you could share my story, maybe it might reach someone who can help.
