My best friend of 13 years, Jason Cooper, was brutally assaulted and almost beaten to death by a crazed man who had also just savagely beat his parents minutes before this incident occurred. This lunatic had also just been arrested a week prior for assaulting two people at a gas station and was RELEASED FROM JAIL soon after!!!
Jason was helping my husband and I move our things to Bloomington. Unfortunately, we were all driving separately and were about 10-15 minutes apart from one another. Jason had come across a man who was walking shirtless in the center of the road. As Jason attempted to slowly drive around him, the guy jumped onto his car denting it and shattering the windshield. Jason got out to check on the man who had swiftly got up and started savagely beating Jason down to the ground. This beating went on for several minutes until a passerby was able to scare the man off of him.
During the assault, the man yelled obscenely at Jason. Jason attempted to fight back & even bit him at one point (it did not phase the guy). Jason then knew he had to roll over onto his stomach to protect his face. He even played dead at one point but the guy didn’t stop beating him.
Jason was punched over 50 times in his face and head & was viciously strangled. Jason tried to reach for his phone to call 911 but the man took his phone from him keeping him from calling for emergency services. Had the passerby not intervened when they did, there is no doubt Jason would have been beaten and strangled to death in the road way.
I arrived on scene just as Jason was being loaded onto a stretcher. I was in complete shock as it took me a few seconds to even realize it was him. He was completely unrecognizable but I knew by his vehicle and what shirt he had been wearing.
The suspect was apprehended quickly not too far down the road. Jason was taken to IUH Bloomington but later transported to Methodist in Indy due to his injuries. I was able to pick him up and bring him back home yesterday after discharge. I had to navigate him entirely because he is unable to open either of his eyes. He cried in pain and disbelief all the way home.
At the is point, Jason is unable to work or do literally anything on his own. His car has significant damage and his glasses were completely crushed and will need replaced too. We don’t believe restitution will be helpful as we are hoping this man goes to prison.
Jason has THE BIGGEST HEART & would do anything for anybody!!! He just happened to fall victim to being in the wrong place at the wrong time. We are so thankful he is alive!!!! We are asking for any donations to help with the long road ahead of him. I have also reached out to news stations and shared his story (he did an interview too) so that we can spread this message and hopefully put enough pressure on the judicial system that they quit letting dangerous people out to roam free!!!
*ALL DONATIONS WILL GO TO JASON COOPER FOR HIS MEDICAL BILLS, CAR DAMAGE, GLASSES, INABILITY TO WORK, etc.*
