Help Jared Beat Leukemia

Donation protected
Hello to all Friends, Family, and Anyone who is willing to open their heart to help us support Jared in his fight against Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). After 8 weeks of migraines, lethargy, nausea, and a weight loss of almost 30 pounds, Jared was finally admitted to the Ronald Reagan UCLA medical center. On Sunday, August 25th doctors took a sample of Jared's bone marrow to perform a biopsy on, hoping it could give us some answers. Two days later, the morning of Tuesday, August 27th, those doctors confirmed our worst fear: at only 31 years old with so much life left to live- Jared has leukemia

Treatment of AML- an aggressive form of leukemia- varies from person to person, although the usual protocol is an induction phase of heavy chemotherapy for a couple of months to knock out the majority of cancer cells. Jared's chemo will be customized via genetic tests as well as his age, which will allow the treatments to be much more targeted.

Once Jared is finished with chemotherapy, which will not only destroy the mutated leukemic blast cells, but his healthy, cancer-free cells as well, he’ll need to restore those healthy cells. To wipe out the remaining cancerous cells and restore those healthy cells within Jared’s body- his bone marrow in particular- he will require an incredibly expensive stem cell transplant, likely provided by one of his doting siblings.

As you can imagine, this is all incredibly expensive. We want Jared to receive the best care available from the most qualified nurses, doctors, oncologists, and specialists. Jared’s insurance unfortunately is refusing to cover his treatment and has denied payment to the UCLA Medical Center- which means we need to act fast.

Jared has devoted much of his adult life to volunteering with Safe Place for Youth which provides immediate and lasting solutions to young adults experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles. He is a fierce advocate for the LGBTQ community, and never fails to make his makeup clients look and feel beautiful. Jared is the dad to a rescue chihuahua with hydrocephalus and he has the most amazing drive and spirit when it comes to helping others. All he wants is to get back on his feet and continue this inspiring work.

Jared’s mother Karen will be acting as the executor of funds and will ensure that in addition to funding Jared’s treatment and subsequent recovery, money donated will help to cover a myriad of expenses including the loss of wages that encompass a diagnosis of this magnitude, of which we expect Jared to be out of work anywhere from 6-12 months. Any additional funds left over after treatment will be divided and donated to Safe Place for Youth, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and the UCLA Broad Stem Cell Annual Fund.

Please use the guestbook on this page to write a message of love, hope, and encouragement to Jared. Jared is remaining positive and optimistic, and looking forward to moving past this and kicking Leukemia’s butt!
