Help Jaquan Stay Enrolled At Drexel

It can be stated that playing sports, especially at a young age, teaches kids many lessons, both on and off the court. Working together as a team to achieve a common goal, time management, work ethic, passion, perseverance. For me, it was all of the above, and then some. It was going to be a ticket to my ultimate dream; going to college and getting a degree. I attended a North Carolina Christian high school where I also was a member of the varsity basketball team, and was on the road to achieving my dream of obtaining a scholarship. I was in contact with a handful of institutions who were interested in me, and I was beginning to see all of the hard work was going to pay off. During my senior year of high school, I was involved in a car accident that severely injured my back and cut my season short three months early. As with collegiate recruiting, I was unfortunately dropped from many programs because of this injury. Without a scholarship, I would not be able to afford to go to college. However, as I believe, everything happens for a reason, and I knew that I would find a way.

 With perseverance, I overcame this initial obstacle and was able to attend Vance Granville Community College, where I played on their team in hopes of transferring to another school. Though my athletic career ended at Vance Granville, I was still determined to finish what I had started. I received my Associate’s Degree in General Studies from Harcum College. With a 3.5 GPA, I applied to Drexel and was accepted. It has been nothing short of a great experience for me, as I have had an opportunity to still be around the game that I love as I assist with the Women’s Basketball program. However, with Winter term approaching quickly, I have been given another challenge to overcome. Though I have numerous loans, grants, and federal aid assisting me in paying my education, I am still not able to swing the tuition for Winter Term, all of which is due January 5th. Though I know that this is all part of the plan, I am in need of some help in order to achieve my goal of graduating. Thank you for your time and consideration. #TeamQ
