<div>Life changed overnight for Jana and Chris.
</div>
<div>Jana (28) and Chris (33) are a young, loving couple doing everything they can to hold their family together through an incredibly difficult time. Chris proudly serves in the U.S. military, and Jana is originally from Germany. 
</div>
<div>Due to military reasons they had to leave Germany and move to New York with their 1 year old son, ready for the next chapter, while expecting a second child.

<div>Only one day after giving birth to their second son, Jana was diagnosed with breast cancer. It should have been a time of joy but it quickly turned into a nightmare.
</div>

<div>Between recovering from a C-section, caring for a newborn and toddler, and starting chemotherapy right away, the months that followed were beyond tough.
</div>
<div>With no family nearby and no childcare available, Jana and Chris faced it all together — often bringing both kids with them to hospital appointments.
</div>
<div>When their newborn needed surgery at just ten weeks old, fear and exhaustion became their daily reality.
</div>

<div>Since the diagnosis, Chris has been doing everything possible to support Jana and their children - juggling work, parenting and caring for his wife. Travel costs and full-time jobs made it impossible to stay long-term for their family abroad. At the end Chris had to use all of his paid leave to support Jana through treatments, surgery and recovery.

<div>A few weeks ago Jana bravely completed chemotherapy and underwent a double mastectomy with 6 weeks of recovery. Chris stayed by Jana’s side, once again taking time off to care for her and manage everything at home. Unfortunately that meant going into negative leave days at work, since the military and his unit didn’t have any solutions for a situation like this…

<div>Now, Jana prepares for another surgery later this year that will require again, 6 weeks of recovery and round-the-clock support. The family faces a new challenge — Chris has no remaining leave and will need to take unpaid time off to care for Jana and the boys during her recovery.
</div>
<div>Losing that income will put a huge financial strain on the family at a time when they are already stretched thin. Facing this while taking care of two young children is a heavy burden.
</div>
