Hi, my name is Bailey Todd and this past weekend my uncle Jan was in a very serious accident where he had to be airlifted to Wenatchee hospital, and went straight into surgery. Due to the severity of his injuries, he will be in the hospital for at least a month recovering. These funds will help my aunt and uncle with the hospital costs, anything helps! Down below is my uncles story...
On Sunday March 25, Jan was going through a typical day of Vintage Motorcross in eastern Washington, when things took a turn. When Jan was racing on a new bike, he began to press the brake but was shot from the bike, flying over the handle bars, landing on his head. He was airlifted to Wenatchee hospital. He was awake and alert but after having an MRI he was sent into surgery.
He suffered a very serious spinal injury. During surgery, the doctors removed the back half of his c3-c5 vertebrae to alleviate pressure on the spinal cord. After surgery, he was on a ventilator for about 12 hours and was finally able to come off the ventilator at about 10:30 Monday morning. Although he is still not at a full breathing capacity, this is still a good sign.
The doctors performed a few upper body motor test and he has bicep function in his left arm and very minimal shoulder function in both.
On Tuesday March 27, he can feel my aunts hand on his forearms but still is not able to move his arms or legs. He is talking although it takes a lot out of him. He is one tough guy! We are so thankful to all of you and your prayers!
Positive note: The nurse asked him how tall he is, he whispers a response. She looks at me, and with a smile I repeated his words, “I am ten feet tall and bulletproof”!
