Help Jan Bennett Beat Cancer!

Donation protected
Winter 2017Hello, I am Sue (Susan Bennett Aston) Jan's sister.  I am the manager of this campaign for her.  Here is her story:
In January 2016, Jan Bennett, our beloved sister, sister in law, aunt, cousin, friend was diagnosed with uterine leiomyosarcoma a smooth muscle tumor that arises from the muscular part of the uterus. It is a rare aggressive cancer, affecting about six out of a million women in the US annually and is often mistaken for the benign leiomyoma or fibroid tumor. When diagnosed it was found to have metastasized to her lungs as well. She was blessed and fortunate to fall into the immediate care of an expert and excellent gynecologic oncologist and medical team. Surgery was performed in early February 2016  to remove the cancerous tumor. While recovering, Jan started chemotherapy and since has endured three rounds of chemotherapy, radiation treatments, numerous tests, scans, x-rays, and doctor’s visits over the past one and a half years with rare short breaks in treatment. She has used her naturopathic physician for treatment with supplements to help with side effects with much success. She is presently starting a new daily round of oral chemotherapy because the cancer continues to persist. We do not know how this will affect her daily activities.Jan is a self-employed artist and craftswoman operating The Chair Clinic, a 3rd generation seat weaving and chair repair business. The Chair Clinic was co-founded 38 years ago with her father, Donald T Bennett Sr, and is located at the Farmington Valley Arts Center in Avon, CT. The original business was started in 1910, as the Go Cart Shop, by her grandfather, Merton E Bennett, in New Bedford, MA. She also continues her 30 years of teaching chair caning in continuing education classes and senior centers. The past 18 months have been unpredictable and extremely stressful for her trying to do business as usual to service her customers between treatments. Despite her best effort to work whenever possible, business overhead expenses have accumulated because she has not been able to work full time
JAN IS DEDICATED TO BEATING THIS CANCER. She is a courageous and unselfish woman, never complaining about her condition or any treatments She also tries to continue life as usual including her lifelong daily walks in the woods, which in recent years includes Oliver her little terrier dog, attending church activities, teaching caning classes and faithfully attending numerous family gatherings, and athletic activities for her local seven grand nieces and nephews. She would like to continue her lifelong use of naturopathic medicine to help treat the side effects of the medical treatments and assist her back to complete health.
These funds would help to:
• Relieve the tremendous burden of the mounting business expenses, allowing Jan to focus on getting better.
• Fund medical expenses currently not covered by her medical insurance such as genetic testing, integrative and naturopathic medicine.
• Finally, subsidize everyday living expenses which can be difficult to meet with her reduced income.
