Jamie Berry, Fighting to Live Life with ALS

On July 14th, 2020, at only 44 years old, our dear friend Jamie was diagnosed with ALS. (Also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease).  ALS is 100% fatal and has no cure. We started this GoFundMe to help her prepare for the brutal journey that nobody could ever be ready to embark on. Our goal is to help raise as much money as possible so that she is ready to fight her fight, head-on with every possible resource!   Believe us:  SHE IS A FIGHTER.   

We want Jamie to have to the best doctors and the best care. Above all, we want to provide Jamie, Jason and Chloee with the precious gift of TIME TOGETHER.

 Unfortunately, ALS is a rapidly progressing neurodegenerative disease. Most patients live 2 to 5 years after their first symptom. ALS causes the person to lose their strength, ability to move their arms, legs, and body, and they lose the ability to eat and breathe on their own. In most cases, their minds remain sharp and alert, trapped inside of a body that is totally paralyzed. Most patients with ALS die from suffocation/respiratory failure.

Jamie’s number one priority in life is her family, her friends and her dogs.   She will tell you loud and proud that she has been with Jason (JBird) for 25 years now.  They are ALL that each other knows.  True Love.   She will tell you loud and proud that she is the Mommy to Chloee (Peanut), her Little Miss Sunshine and her little best friend.   AND, of course there are her Dogs.   Jamie and Dogs go hand in hand.  If you of Jamie, you probably think of a Weenie Dog or a Mastiff.  She LOVES her animals.   

We can tell you that Jamie is the last person that would want this GoFundMe page… she would “feel bad”. She is the one that is always starting them for ones in need. She is always the FIRST of our friends to jump in headfirst to help others. She is the problem fixer/ advice giver to her family, which includes friends. She lives for her family and won’t rest until she knows that they are all safe, loved, and cared for! 
She is quite frankly, the most selfless person most of us know, constantly putting everyone’s needs before her own. To say that her world has been ROCKED is an understatement.

While her heart is with her family, friends and her dogs, her time is owned by the true fight of her life:  Advocating for congress to pass the Act for ALS Bills.   Her time is divided between that battle and regular visits to the doctor for necessary treatments.    These treatments slow down the rapid progression of ALS.   These treatments are not covered by insurance.   These treatments are necessary for her survival, but they are also costly.  They are not covered by any insurance plan, for that matter. 

The silver lining is that Jamie is one of the most persistent and determined people we all know. Thankfully, the word NO isn’t a part of her vocabulary.  She is relentless to try and make a change in the ALS community.   We love her and want to help so we thought, “What would Jamie do?”    THIS IS WHAT JAMIE WOULD DO!!

Please help to let Jamie know we are all behind her and ready to go to battle with her. Let’s also make sure both Jason and Chloee know that with our love and support, they will have one less thing to worry about.
