Help James & Josie Cooper After a Life-Altering Medical Crisis
Within just six hours, life as they knew it was gone.
I’m Sharon Johnson, a former TV news anchor and award-winning writer, and I’m writing one of the toughest stories I’ve ever had to share—because it’s personal. My dear friends, Pastor Josie Braxton Cooper and her husband, Elder James Cooper, have dedicated their lives to serving others, but now, they need our help.
A Business Lost, A Health Crisis, and A New Normal
James and Josie are pastors. Josie is also a well-known hairstylist, running her award-winning salon, Kut’n Up In Style Beauty Salon in Greenville, while James works in commercial flooring maintenance—but his true passion is cooking. They built a thriving food truck business, JC Cooks With Love, until a devastating fire took it off the road just five months ago.
Determined to rebuild, they repaired the food truck and were hoping to be back in business when everything changed again.
James went in for a routine thyroid surgery to remove a benign cyst—but what should have been a simple procedure turned into a six-hour emergency surgery. Doctors discovered the cyst was cancerous, requiring an emergency tracheostomy and a gastrostomy to place a feeding tube. He spent two weeks in the hospital, fighting through one of the toughest battles of his life.
AND the battle isn't over, medically or financially!
The Financial Burden Is Overwhelming
With James unable to work and Josie drastically reducing her hours at the salon to care for him, their income has taken a huge hit. Medical expenses are skyrocketing, and their insurance does not cover out-of-hospital care.
How You Can Help
I’m starting this GoFundMe to support this man and woman of God as they navigate this difficult journey. They need our prayers, our love, and financial help to survive this storm.
James was discharged from the hospital on Valentine’s Day, and Josie is holding on to faith, saying:
“At least we were home on Valentine’s Day. TGBTG!! We have been through the fire!!! But God!”
Let’s show them love and encouragement by helping to ease their financial burden. Any amount you can give will help them as they adjust to their new normal.
Please donate, share, and keep them in your prayers.
