Update!! Circumstances have changed.. Unfortunately, we will now be planning my daddy’s funeral He is having to be removed from the ventilator and placed in comfort care to live out his last moments.. Any funds donated will now be to covering burial expenses in addition to hospital stay costs.
Hello Everyone!
Before we even get to the story, first I just want to say thank you to anyone who took the time to even click on this link and read our story! We have prayed very carefully about starting this go fund me and feel it has been blessed by God, and we’ve placed it in God’s hands to run, so anyone who even makes it to this link.. we want to thank you from the bottoms of our hearts, and bless you in Christ for any thoughts or prayers for us! Even those who cannot donate, we appreciate your care!
In short summary before I give the many details, my dad is in the ICU in paralyzed condition fighting for his life after a brain bleed, and we are all trying to fight through the unforeseen financial & familial turmoil to accommodate this tragedy.
The reason we decided to begin this go fund me is because last Saturday on Feb 8th, our father (James Finley) who lives at home with his sister, 6 hours away from us (his children and grandchildren) in Wichita Falls, woke up and went to the bathroom where he then collapsed from what initially seemed to be a stroke.. his sister called an ambulance who rushed him to the ER where they then discovered a brain bleed at the stem of his brain. He coded on flatline for 4 mins, and had to be resuscitated… That hospital in Wichita, then had to life flight him to a special hospital in Plano TX, called medical city.
Once he arrived at this ER, he had to immediately be intubated because he could not breathe on his own… the brain bleed has done significant permanent damage causing paralysis in the right side of his body completely. He has lost all mobility to his right side and in addition to that, they also discovered very quickly a massive aneurysm on the top of his brain. When he came off the intubation, he could hardly breathe on his own and had to be placed on heavy oxygen… his O2 kept dropping, it took days to get his vitals stable. Leading up to this, he already fights with high blood pressure, debilitating panic/anxiety disorder from traumatic brain injury, pre diabetes, and COPD.. he also received broken ribs from the chest compressions.. he has also paralyzed his diaphragm so he cannot communicate his needs, eat, or drink. We have had to leave our jobs, our homes, our pets and all our bills behind to be at the hospital with him in Plano, around the clock. He is needing around the clock care and supervision… last night he had to go back on the intubation in order to receive the proper MRI’s needed to analyze his brain and spine… so far they have discovered a lesion on his spine that they believe has caused the bleed. Today they are doing more procedures to narrow down the cause and effect.
He was living with his sister who is also on disability and at home oxygen… and after this, she will no longer have the means to care for him.. she is without transportation and still trying to find the means to travel here to see him. So we have to bring him home with us to Houston after his stay here, or at least closer to home placing him in a facility where he can receive the care he needs. He will have to be placed in a wheelchair etc. Sorry to share so many details but it’s a LOT! So moving forward, between me, my husband, my sister, brother in law and my aunt, we all have to somehow manage a way to care for all of his needs while also missing work and our ability to make money. We all already know how terrible the economy is at the moment… so we started this go fund me in hopes to raise money to cover our bills, our gas, food, hotel stays, help with our pets, as well as any medical needs and expenses we may have for him after he leaves the hospital. He is on disability and does have medicade so that is covering his hospital bills.. but we are attempting to raise money for ourselves to accommodate all of our many needs in this time. We are praying our dad can hold on and fight and get himself through this!! Our hope is that first he can safely be taken off of intubation, receive progress through respiratory therapy to regain his vocal skills, ability to eat and drink.. and that we can afford to care for him with this permanent paralysis.
there are many risks associated with the procedures they have to do to look at his spine and brain, and we’re praying his survives it with hope & strength in his spirit.. or that if he is to suffer so greatly, that the Lord would take him home peacefully to be with his son. He lost his first born to suicide in 2023 and the grief has taken a physical toll on him. We would love to NOT have to place him in a facility, but to be able to bring him home with us and manage a way for someone to always be with him so that he can spend his last days with his children and grandchildren where he rightfully belongs!
So sorry this was so long… but it’s just a lot of mess we are working through! Absolutely anything you feel led in your heart by the Lord to give to us, even if it’s $1, is deeply appreciated!!! We pray blessings and abundance be returned upon you for it!! We know it’s trying times so for those of who cannot donate, we still pray blessings and peace upon you and request many prayers to be lifted!! Much love to you all in Jesus name!
