Help Jalapeño Battle FIP #TogetherWeCan

Hi FIP Warriers! We want you to meet Jalapeño! He is a fighter. Jalapeño came into the rescue that I am involved with at three weeks of age. Full of life, and ever so vibrant!

He grew ans flourished in his foster home until it was time to spread his wings and fly! He was adopted on August 28, 2021. He was healthy and strong!

Unfortunately on September 3, 2021 we received communication that he was presenting with ataxia, had an upper respiratory infection and a fever. He went to his adopters vet. They treated him with meds and sent him home.

On October 3rd, 2021 we had his family drop Jalapeño off at a local veterinary hospital with a team member during her shift . He spent night. At this time he was bunny hoping. They put him on an autoimmune protocol and wanted to follow up in a week. His adoptee decided to not return, but to go to her own primary vet. They did bloodwork that showed a high coronavirus titer. They stopped treatment.

We checked in on November 1,2021. Jalapeño is now army crawling with adopter. He can no longer walk with his legs. She agreed that the best place for Jalapeño is back with us.

On November 7, 2021 we brought Jalapeño back and he will live with us at our president’s house where he will always be safe and loved!

November 10, 2021- Jalapeño has no feeling or mobility in front legs from the carpis down. He can push off with back legs and has use of body to launch forward. hind legs still work, flexing, stretching and using, but getting weaker

On November 16, 2021 he was seen by a neurologist. Bloodwork was still good, but mobility still declining. She gave an open ended diagnosis, but did say she couldn’t rule FIP out.

On December 7,2021 Jalapeño went to another clinic for full body X-ray, ultrasound and a third blood panel. All results were remarkable. The only diagnosis was neurological FIP.

Jalapeno’s diagnosis may not be a death sentence if we act fast! FIP is no longer the death sentence it once was due to the 50 year research that Dr Pedersen has devoted his life to. He has found that the GS-441524 drug not only treats FIP but in most cases, actually cures it.

Unfortunately the costs are high! We will not be able to do it without the help of the village!! Please consider donating to help us cover the cost of this three month (or longer) treatment protocol. Approx cost is just over $200 a week (cost will vary as his weight varies) . Initial minimum timeframe is twelve weeks, however it can be longer. We will also have to do monthly blood panels and follow up visit. The approximate total cost to try and save Jalapeño’s life is around $4000-$4500.
