Help Jake Come Back To Us

Donation protected
This is Jake. He has autism but that's not what this request is about. His autism is what we love most about Jake. But right now, Jake and his family are in dire need of your support.

Jake was hospitalized on Friday, July 7th for a neurological disorder they thought to believe was due to a tick bite from a recent camping trip. Upon arrival, they found that it was not. Jake had signs of minor strokes on his brain scan but that still was not the problem. The doctors were unsure of what was causing the DRASTIC personality change - - and treated him with a medication that only worsen his condition. No, it was not the hospitals fault here. Just the fact that Jake, having autism and a more sensitive system than most, had a horrible reaction.

On Saturday, July 8th, Jake lost all his motor skills. He could not walk, talk, sit up, chew, swallow. He could only lay there, in pain, while the medication wrecked havoc through his body.

On Monday, July 10th, he started to regain some of his motor skills. He could sit up again, talk some. But thats about it. Every day since he has regained some of his motor skills. But its been a very slow journey. And even worse, the doctors still are unsure of his diagnosis and the reason for his personality to change so drastically. He is constantly leaving us for "the other world". No matter how hard we fight to keep him in our world to stay. He keeps slipping back. He is scared, we are scared. We just want our Jake back. The doctors believe it is some kind of viral infection due to his symptoms: fever, pain, etc. But still no answers. They are calling his condition one for the books, because it hasnt been written yet.

Now, is it July 17th, Jake has been in the hospital for 10 days. Still not recovered from the terrible reaction he had from the medication or the reason for being admitted in the first place. But they are discharging him. There is nothing more than can do. They have run every test they could possible think of. Blood, spinal, scans, neurological... you name it. Nothing is giving us answers. But what we do know, is that Jake is going to need a lot of help in his future.

For anyone that knew Jake prior, he was a very high functioning autistic boy who lived a very happy life. Able to care for himself, handle simple tasks at home with his family, go on walks, visit his grandparents, explore the wonders of OMSI, and more. But now he is going to need the help of many doctors and nurses. He is going to need 24/7 care at home, occupational therapists, speech therapists, physical therapists, nurses and more. The nurse visits alone will be$250/day. Even worse, there is no estimated time of recovery... it could be years due to the fact that his symptoms could not be diagnosed due to the limited amount of knowledge for autism related medical cases.

As you can imagine, this has put the family is a very disheartening and frightening financial situation. They will do everything in their power to make sure Jake has the BEST care. But they are at their limit. They can't financially do this alone.

Nick and Angie (Jake's parents) are two of the most incredible people I know. They are giving, loving, helpful, merciful, encouraging and the list goes on. They are the first ones to show up and the last to stay by your side when you needed them most. This family has been through SO MUCH this past year. And right now they need your help.

Even if you cannot donate today, please help by sharing Jake's story and praying for his recovery.
