.Help Jaime Sweany relocate her art gallery..

I am seeking help from the community to support Jaime Sweany in moving her Indiana Arts Council-recognized arts destination, Juniper Gallery, to Bloomington next year from its current location in Spencer.

Daughter of two artists and a Bloomington native, Jaime has played a key role in the local arts community for decades. She helped found First Fridays Gallery Walk 19 years ago, and won the Downtown Business of the Year Award as the proprietor of Wandering Turtle Gallery.

Jaime’s vision for the new space in Bloomington’s west-side arts district is to feature the works of local and regional artists, to provide a venue for live music, and to offer a meeting place for local arts groups and community events. Attached to the gallery is a store with a well-curated selection of wares from local ceramicists, fiber artists, jewelers, and international fair-trade artisans.

As an artist, I’m thrilled that someone with such a track record in the arts community is bringing her business home. In the past, Jaime’s generosity has expressed itself in her hosting groups including Women Writing for (a) Change, local fiber arts and book clubs, self-care Sundays, and free events with regional musicians. The cost of renovation and moving are not insubstantial, and I’m hoping that, as a community, we can take this opportunity to show our generosity to Jaime by defraying some of her expenses. My goal represents about a third of her projected costs.
