Jacqueline Jeffers and Janelle Farrow would like to share our mother’s story in summary about her diagnosis of adrenal cancer. Our mother survived breast cancer 19 years ago, but In October 2017, our mom went to Cape Reginojal Medical center in NJ, with signs & symptoms of fluid volume overload. She has a history of Congested Heart Failure since August 2017.
Cape Regional took a chest X-Ray in October 2017, and the results changed my entire family life. The hospital identified a mass on her left adrenal gland. Approx 2 weeks later did a biopsy, and the results came almost 3 weeks later. The results confirmed my mother Jacqueline, had Adrenal Pheochrocytoma Cancer. Mom followed up with her oncologist in Marmora NJ and the oncologist forgot to mention the surgeon also took a biopsy of her liver. The cancer had spread and metastatized and my mom wasn’t told until months later. The oncologist in Marmora admitted she didn’t read the entire report. We don’t understand how a oncologist doesn’t read the entire pathology report as well. The story is just beginning. Pathology in misdiagnosed the type of cancer. My mom was lead to believe she had adrenal Pheochromocytoma cancer. The biopsy was sent to Jefferson Hosptial for a second opinion and it turns out my mom has an even rarer carcinogenic cell called Adrenal Carcinoma Cancer.
Our mother Jacqueline, followed up with a oncologist at Jefferson hospital in December 2017 and they had to repeat the biopsy. They told us the biopsy from Cape Regional Medical Center, was poorly done and they didn’t get enough samples. After the biopsy was repeated at Jefferson Hospital PA, they informed us that my mom didn’t have Pheochromocytoma. That cancer is a rare cancer. They informed my mom she had a cancer that oncologist everywhere really don’t know how to treat. The cancer my mom has is adrenal carcinoma cancer. The cancer has metastasized since her diagnosed in NJ. Our mother is in a lot pain, she’s lost weight and her eating has decreased.
Our mother just received treatment with Mitone in January since her diagnosis in October. Doctors were hesitant to give her anything because of her heart condition, multiple sclerosis and previous history with Breast Cancer 19 years ago. The chemo my mother took for her breast cancer 19!years ago damaged the muscles in her heart. We are faithful and hopeful. We are fighting for our mother even when she isn’t able to fight for herself. It’s hard watching someone you love with all your heart be sick. It’s heartbreaking to watch a person you admire fight to live when they’re a good person.
We just had a third opinion in regards to her cancer and treatment at Fox Chase, in Philadelphia. The treatment they recommended was the same as the Jefferson Oncologist.
Again we are faithful and still hopeful.
Adrenal cancer (adrenocortical carcinoma or ACC) is an extremely rare cancer which occurs in 1-2 people per million people in the population. Approximately 600 patients are diagnosed with adrenal cancer each year in the United States. My mother cancer is inoperable. The doctors are treating my mom with a chemo pill called Mitane, also known as DDT a pesticide. It has a 20% chance of working. She just got approved for three days ago immunotherapy drug called Keytruda. She will start that Feb. 1st.
We are asking for all the financial help you are able to spare. We also would like for each one of you to take care of yourselves and get check ups.
We have a host of family, friends and churches praying for my mom. I appreciate all the prayers and love. My mother will be coming up to PA to stay with her daughter Jacqueline Jeffers and son in law CALVIN Jeffers. It will be too much for my dad to take care of her alone. She needs to be closer to her doctors where she will get treatment.
Im asking all my family, friends, and bystanders to please help our mother Jacqueline Ada Fitzpatrick, fight this cancer, lessen the financial stress. We are asking as her daughters to allow us to help our mom, spend quality time with her. We need help! She has been traveling to oncologist in NJ, and two oncologist in PA. She just went for another opinion at Fox Chase.
I don’t have to tell anyone how emotional, stressful, and financially difficult it can be dealing with a love one that has cancer. I’m just asking for help. If you can help donate something that will help a lot. Every donation regardless of amount will be respectfully appreciated.
