Help Jacob Kalehuawehe Avoid Eviction, Battle Kidney Failure

Hello! My name is Nicole and I lived on Maui for the past year (since Jan 2024) and it was a magical experience, very far from my home of NYC. I met so many incredible people including this amazing man named Jacob (Iokepa) Kalehuawehe, who is from Kahului and drives Uber/Lyft.

He is going through a REALLY hard time with health and bills. I'm writing to ask for your generous support for this beautiful man whose spirit is immensely strong even in the hardest of times. Maybe some of you know him (or his son who was a local boxer) and can reach out to him directly, but even if you don't, your anonymous amount can go a long way.

Major Issues:
  • Jacob is very behind on rent and is being threatened with eviction. He needs $5000 ASAP!
  • He has life-threatening kidney failure for which he is receiving dialysis 3x/week. It is very draining, and he doesn't have much energy to work for up to 24 hours after. Much of the time, he has to be on the road, and medical bills are on top of that.
  • Phone bills (which he needs to use his driving apps)

PLEASE PLEASE give what you can, it adds up and we appreciate it so much!!!

Since I didn't have a car on the island, I took a lot of Ubers, but this man was by far the nicest, friendliest, and most positive local I met. He moved me with his enthusiasm and support for my dream to be a professional singer on our first ride.

I cannot post his phone number here, but you can contact him on FB: https://www.facebook.com/jacob.kalehuawehe

This fundraiser is shared with him and all proceeds 100% go to him, but managed by me (Nicole).

Message from Jacob:

"Hey you how are you? Mahalo for all the heads up (on different community resources recommended by people on Facebook). I tried MEO catholic charities, Salvation Army and others, but all of them are out of money and I have to wait until about July. It was very frustrating and disappointing. I will press forward. The landlord is determined to evict, and called a mediator. It was so traumatizing to be in that situation, very depressing. I am finally coming out of that depression and moving forward. I can only concentrate on the future and not dwell on all that negativity. Having your support is so important knowing that you are there. Mahalo my friend! Blessings to you and may have a rich and satisfying day. Aloha"

Sincerely,
Nicole
