Help Jackson in his fight against cancer

Thank you for your interest in our Gofundme. I’m Randi, Jackson’s auntie and one of his caregivers. I’ve been with Jackson for every step of his treatment. We are trying to raise funds to support our six-seven week stay in Toronto where Jackson will receive his radiation treatment in hopes to recover from his rare and aggressive form of pediatric cancer.

In August of 2021 we were faced with one of the worst situations a family can go through. Jackson was diagnosed with a rhabdoid tumour in his sacrum (lower spine). This cancer prognosis is grim as the survival rate is 20%.

During the beginning stages of his care plan we were told to expect surgery which would take years to recover from as they would remove a large portion of Jackson’s spine, nerves, surrounding tissue and function, ultimately completely disconnecting his lower half from the top and leaving a very large gap in his abdomen. After a lot of consideration and team meetings, SickKids and his care team were keen to suggest trying radiation before what would now be considered “rescue surgery”. We are hopeful that radiation will be a success and therefor save Jackson from a much different quality of life, or save him from his cancer all together and beating the odds.

Since Jackson was diagnosed we’ve pulled together an “all hands on deck” approach with his near extended family since Jackson has three sibling at home; one of which was born only yesterday, January 10th. Jackson’s grandparents on his mother’s side, Kathy and Dwight, have helped tremendously with assistance in child care while his mom was going through a difficult pregnancy. His dads parents (mine as well) have helped with caregiving, trips, rides, errands and much more since the beginning. I’ve personally put a lot of my own needs aside as well, bringing Jackson to and from Toronto and contributing financially to what he needs. We’ve all exhausted our financial abilities in helping and will need more funding to help Jackson with accommodations, food and activities while he stays for nearly two months starting January 24th. As of now we’ve received one travel grant since August for just under $140 which barely covers gas and completely disregards all other costs like parking, food, vehicle maintenance and Jackson’s other medical needs and equipment. This is one single check for eight trips combined while Jackson completed chemotherapy. We’ve also paid for many other costs like things to keep Jackson comfortable and entertained and food and gas while Jackson is admitted in Sudbury as well.

We know this little guy has an amazing amount of fight in him and want to assist him any way we possibly can. This means also helping in raising funds to make his stay in Toronto possible with the caregivers he needs. We’ve been recently told to pay for costs upfront and hope that some non-profit organizations can help with refunding some of it. Unfortunately travel grants and current resources haven’t even begun to cover the costs we’ve incurred since the beginning of our battle with Jackson’s cancer. Thank-you kindly for reading our story and showing interest in Jackson’s journey. If you are unable to donate we welcome all prayers and positive vibes as well ❤️.
